Mary Josephine Slater On the 17th of July, of consumption, Miss Mary Josephine Slater of Clarion, Pa., in her 30th year. The final sickness and suffering of this excellent young lady, though protracted through four weary months, were endured with great patience and submission. Three weeks before her death, her family so anxious for her restoration removed her to the northern part of the county, but only in a short time to bring back her remains, and now beside kindred dust she sleeps in the Clarion cemetery. A wide blank is thus left in the home of an unusually kind and affectionate family by the death of a loved daughter and sister, so thoughtful and self-sacrificing for the happiness and comfort of others. She was a devoted and consistent member of the Presbyterian church of Clarion and was earnest and faithful in the discharge of life’s varied duties. Unostentatious and retiring in manner, her Christian character was symmetrical and increasingly lovely. Bereaved and stricken hearts in our midst can testify to her gentle ministries in their sorrows. Her hope of heaven grew stronger and brighter until at the last she was even anxious to go and be at rest. She asked her dear widowed mother not to grieve for her, to remember that she was but going home. To other members of the family and a friend present she spoke words of cheer and hope and sent loving messages to those of the family absent. The conflict is over but the glorious hope remains that she has gone to share the joys and companionships of heave. “So He giveth His beloved sleep.”.2 She was buried at Clarion Cemetery, 2nd Avenue, Clarion, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.2 She was born circa 1848 at Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.1,2 She died on July 17, 1878 at Clarion, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.2
