She met and married James Wyse in Pullman after meeting playing in a dance band while Jim was attending WSU. It was a marriage that lasted a lifetime until Jimmy's death in 1988. Dorothy continued to live independantly enjoying music, books, travel, aerobics and volunteer work until she died on July 6th 2009 of heart failure. Dorothy is survived by her three children: Penni, Marty and Wendy; her three grandchildren: Tarik, Marcus and Tim and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Doris, Francis, Randy Robby, Sally and Nancy (predeceased by two of her brothers John and Earl Jr.) Memorial service will be July 15th, 1:00pm at Grace Baptist Church in Tacoma with viewing on July 14th 1:00-9:00pm at Mountatin View where she will be buried. If so desired, donations can be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF), the or the Tacoma Orthopedic Guild. on July 12, 2009.1

     William James Whitehill was buried at Neshannock Presbyterian Cemetery, New Wilmington, Lawrence Co., Pennsylvania.3,4,7,6 He was born on August 17, 1921 at Oil City, Venango Co., Pennsylvania.2,3,5 He married Lillian May Lawford on May 20, 1945.7 William James Whitehill died on June 11, 1950 at Youngstown, Mahoning Co., Ohio, at age 28.3,7 He Injuries sustained in an auto crash one week ago on Route 18, north of New Castle, proved fatal to William James Whitehill, aged 28, of 123 South Market street, New Wilmington. He succumbed Sunday, June 11, at 8 a.m. in the Southside unit of the Youngstown hospital, where he was taken a few days after the crash for brain surgery. Enroute to his New Wilmington home late June 3, after visiting his wife and new born son in the Jameson Memorial hospital, Whitehill in some manner lost control of the car he was driving, four miles north of New Castle. His car crashed into the highway guard railing hurling the motorist out to the center of the highway. Passing motorists discovered the crash victim and rushed him to the Jameson hospital. Examination at the hospital revealed laceration of the scalp, fracture of the skull in the left frontal area and severe laceration of the upper lip. In an effort to save his life, the accident victim, was removed to the Youngstown hospital whert he underwent brain surgery. He failed to rally and death came at 8 o’clock Sunday morning. Born in Oil City August 7, 1921, he was a son of the late Clifford Charles Whitehill and Mrs. Manila Mock Beale, the latter who survives him. On May 20, 1945, he was united in marriage to Lillian May Lawford. He had been a resident of New Wilmington for the past year, having formerly resided in Oil City and New Castle. Mr. Whitehill, who was assistant manager of the New Wilmington Isaly store, attended the New Wilmington Methodist church. He served seven years in the U.S. army and was overseas during World War II with the First army. Surviving are his widow and three children, Beverly, Priscilla and William John, all of New Wilmington; his mother, Mrs. Manila Beale of this city; his stepfather, Donald Beale of this city; the following brothers and sister; Robert of the U.S. navy, Boyd of Erie, Clifton Beale of this city, Mrs. Elaine Bopp of Butler, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mock of Oil City. Funeral services are to be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Sharp funeral home in New Wilmington, with Rev. George Myers, pastor of the New Wilmington Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Neshannock. on June 12, 1950.7

Surviving are 13 children: Argile and Vernon of Oil City; Amos of Clarion; Charles of Fisher; Jacob of Los Angeles, Calif; Joseph of Franklin; John of Helen Furnace; Mrs. Della Miller of Buffalo, NY; Mrs. James Reaghart of Strattanville; Mrs. Edward Coffey of Titusville; Mrs. Frederick Bauer of Lucinda; Mrs. Mary Cannita of Sheffield, and Mrs. George Ion of Kittanning. Also surviving are 49 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters, John Smith of Scotch Hill, Roland Smith of Warren, Barton Smith and Mrs. George Weiser of Kane. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. last Saturday in the Helen Furnace Methodist church with the Rev. William Millron in charge. Interment was made in the Helen Furnace cemetery under the direction of Jenkins funeral home in Clarion. on January 28, 1948.3

The body is at the Slocum residence in Leeper where friends may call. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the Scotch Hill Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Farrell E. Evans, officiating. Interment will be in the Helen Furnace Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Goble Funeral Home in Clarion.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one sister. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at the Gerald L. Goble Funeral Home in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Rev. George S. Crooks, pastor of the First Methodist Church in Clarion, will officiate. Burial will be in the Fisher Presbyterian Cemetery. on October 9, 1976.4

Also 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Eva Sone (sic Stone) Sheffield; Mrs. Margaret Shotts, San Francisco, Calif; Mrs. Carrie Knapp, Warren; James M. Porter, Scotch Hill; Strickland Porter, Tionesta. The Rev. Jack Parsons, pastor of First Methodist church at Sheffield, will conduct funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Sheffield, with interment following in Barnes cemetery. on March 5, 1957.4
