After the war he was the first coach of the Warren Red Jackets semi-pro football team. He later coached and taught at St. Ann's High School in West Palm Beach. In 1964, Mr. Whisner moved to Indian Harbour Beach, where he owned and operated the Atlantic Insurance Agency until retirement. Survivors include his wife, Eileen Whisner of Indian Harbour Beach; sons, Timothy Whisner of Palm Beach Gardens and Thomas Whisner of Melbourne; daughter, Christine Druhan of Winter Park; stepmother, Leota Whisner of Melbourne; and two grandchildren. on June 24, 1990.¹ He died on July 19, 1990 at Warren, Warren Co., Pennsylvania, at age 73.^1,2,6,8

Tom attended Brevard Community College and worked on the Apollo and Saturn Programs for the Boeing Company. Tom and his brother had many astronaut friends and they were an integral part of Cocoa Beach Society. He was the former President and "Man of the Year" multiple times for the Melbourne Kiawanis, President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Brevard County-YMCA Board of Directors, Facilities Chairman of Melbourne Octoberfest, Board of Director, Junior Achievement, hands-on helped build the Brevard Zoo, The Progressive Playground Melbourne Beach, member of Save the St. Johns River Foundation, was active at the "Daily Bread" (soup kitchen) and St. Joseph Church, Palm Bay. Tom served honorably in the U.S. Army and the Florida National Guard. on January 21, 2010.²
