Her Social Security Number was 308-28-2020.5 Charlotte Jane Pell was born on September 6, 1928 at Carbon, Clay Co., Indiana.6,1,5 As of November 1, 1947,her married name was Chaney.6 She married Samuel Richard Chaney on November 1, 1947 at Terre Haute, Vigo Co., Indiana.6,1 Charlotte Jane Pell married Samuel Richard Chaney on October 8, 1952 at Indiana.3 Charlotte Jane Pell died on January 13, 2006 at Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, at age 77.6,1,5 She Charlotte Jane (Pell) Chaney 77, went home to our Lord Friday, January 13, 2006. Charlotte Jane was born September 6, 1928, in Carbon, Indiana. She graduated valedictorian from Van Buren High School in 1946 and married Samuel Chaney the following year. They lived together in Brazil and their first son, Richard, was born in 1949. Two more children were born to them while residing in Terre Haute, Pamela (1957) and David (1959). They moved to Noblesville, Indiana, in 1963 where they were blessed with another daughter, Marsha. Charlotte Jane was a full-time homemaker, a job that she embraced and loved. Samuel Chaney worked as an electrical engineer and manager throughout his life and he and Charlotte Jane allowed his work to take them to Lodi, California; Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Marianna, Florida, and Delaware, Ohio. Samuel passed away after a short battle with cancer in 1983 while they resided in Ohio. Charlotte Jane continued living in Ohio with her two daughters and son-in-law, Chris Erickson, until 1989 when they all moved to Tucson, Arizona. Charlotte Jane loved the desert. She spent many happy times traveling around Arizona with her family, hiking the scenic trails, picnicking in the mountains and enjoying the desert wildlife. In 1994 her mother passed away whom she was caring for in her home and her brother, Forrest, passed away from cancer; she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the end of the year. Though treatments for her disease were only minimally effective and she lived with constant pain, she never let it dampen her spirits or energy. She worked tirelessly as a volunteer for more than 15 years at Northwest Hospital of Tucson and also for a group of ophthalmologists, often working four or five days a week. She loved meeting people and helping them. She loved working alongside the other volunteers, many of whom became long-time friends. She and her daughter, Pamela shared a home in Tucson until her death. They were best friends and companions and rarely seen apart except as work took them; Pamela is a second grade teacher in her eighteenth year at the same school. Though she was separated from her grandchildren in Ohio, her love for them bridged the distance. She never forgot a holiday or birthday and treasured the times in their company. She also was blessed by three grandchildren in Tucson, all of whom were born to their daughter, Marsha and son-in-law Chris. The most recent in August 2005. She loved all her grandchildren very much but was particularly taken with little Harry (August, 2005) whom she called her miracle baby. Even in her last hours, Harry made her smile. Charlotte Jane was a special person, a constant friend, faithful wife, wonderful mother and doting grandmother. She enjoyed her life to the fullest; she talked a lot, laughed a lot and had many friends. She loved to travel, read and spend time with family. At her passing she was surrounded by all four children and their spouses, as well as three of her grandchildren. She knew us all to the very end and reassured us by repeatedly saying, "It's okay, it's all right, everything's fine." She was a blessing to all who knew her and will be missed by all who loved her so very, very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Richard Chaney; father, George Marshall Pell; mother, Leva Gertrude (Parsons) Pell; and brother, Forrest Marshall Pell. She left behind her children, Richard Wayne Chaney, Pamela Jayne Chaney, David Marshall Chaney and Marsha Kay (Chaney) Erickson, all of Tucson. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Jared, Ross and Trevor Chaney of Columbus, Ohio; and Gwendolyn, Aubrey and Harry Erickson of Tucson. Services will be held Friday, January 20, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, 3500 W. Sumter Road, Tucson. All are welcome. on January 19, 2006.1
