Barbara was born October 12, 1913, in Richland, Oregon, to C. Paine and Claudia Shangle, who had begun their teaching careers there. Her father's work took them to Sedro Woolley, Washington, where Barbara graduated from high school. Her education continued at Bellingham Normal School (later Western Washington University). She graduated in 1934 and began a teaching career of her own before moving to Everett. In 1938 she met and married Walter Morris. After Walter's service in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II, he and his brother, Paul, began a boat building business in Bellingham, later moving their enterprise to Everett. Barbara continued her teaching career, and attended the University of Washington to obtain a graduate degree in Library Sciences. Although Walter died in 1969, she continued her career and enjoyed many fruitful years as both a teacher and librarian with the Everett School District, retiring in 1977. She stayed near family and friends in Everett after her retirement. She traveled extensively, often with her sister, Miriam. Barbara was active in her community throughout her life. She was a member of Everett Chapter Q, P.E.O., Everett Chapter #222, order of the Easter Star, Civic Music, Providence General Children's Association, Sno-Isle Retired Teachers, United Methodist Women, Everett Golf and Country Club, and numerous other civic and social groups.Barbara was preceeded in death by her husband, Walter; her mother and father, C. Their love gave Barbara the gift of two great-grandchildren, Mia and Caden. She is also survived by her loving sister, Miriam Hill; and her many nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved by all.Barbara enjoyed a good game of bridge with her dear friends, often playing four or more times a week. Scrabble and Yahtzee were played with great gusto with her family over the years at get-togethers. Her sharp wit and gentle humor were invariably accompanied by a smile, a wink, or both.Wherever she went she made friends, even in her final days. Her grace, warmth, kindness and generosity will never be forgotten by those of us whose lives she touched. A memorial service will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at Purdy & Walters Funeral Home on March 15, 2005.2
