     Roger Lee McGuffin Roger Lee McGuffin, age 78, of Prosperity, WV passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Born on December 14, 1944 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Henry and Hazel McGuffin. Mr. McGuffin was retired from the building construction industry, having owned and operated Beckley Framing Company for many years, retiring in 2005. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ted and Jimmy McGuffin, and Sandy Dillon. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Helen Carra Thomas McGuffin; children, Samantha Stokes and husband David of NC, Lesa Lang and husband Paul of NC, and Roger McGuffin Jr. and wife Tammy of NC; the mother of his children, Donna Mann of NC; A step daughter, Kim Williams and husband Les of Shady Spring, WV; special niece, Kim Wamsley and husband Matt of Beckley; brothers, Bobby McGuffin and wife Marlene of OH, and Gary McGuffin and wife Theresa of NC. Many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. The family extends a special thank you to Raleigh General Hospital, ARH Doctors and Nurses, and also to the many Hospice Nurses and Staff of Bowers Hospice House for their kindness given to Roger.      William McKinley Mitchem and Laura Marrainia McGuffin were divorced.⁵ William McKinley Mitchem was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 550 Delsea Drive, Hurffville, Gloucester Co., New Jersey.^2,6 His Social Security Number was 235-18-6558.³ He was born on December 31, 1916 at Eccles, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^2,7,3,4 He married Laura Marrainia McGuffin, daughter of John Harvey McGuffin and Rosa Ellen "Rosie" McNeil, on August 16, 1937 at Prosperity, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.¹ William McKinley Mitchem died on December 13, 1987 at Woodbury, Gloucester Co., New Jersey, at age 70.^6,2,7,3 He William Mitchem, 70, of Pitman, died Sunday at Underwood-Memorial Hospital, Woodbury. Survivors: his wife, Margaret Reigenbach Mitchem; a daughter, Eva Rose Adkins; three sons, Otis Lamon, Terrance Lewis and Robert Michael; four grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Burial, Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hurffville. on December 17, 1987.⁶

     Sandra Kay McGuffin Sandra Kay McGuffin Dillon, age 71, of Beaver, WV, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Born on September 24, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Henry A. McGuffin and Hazel Laws McGuffin. Sandie was a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter, granddaughter, and other family members. In addition to her parents, Sandie was preceded in death by a brother, James D. McGuffin. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kimberly Wamsley and husband Matt, of Beckley; granddaughter, Kayleigh Gardner of Beckley; step granddaughter, Jessica Wamsley of Beckley; brothers, Ted McGuffin and wife Diane, of Ohio, Bobby McGuffin and wife Marlene, of Ohio, Roger McGuffin and wife Helen, of Prosperity, and Gary McGuffin and wife Teresa, of North Carolina. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.³ Her married name was Dillon.² She was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5250 Robert Centre Byrd Drive, Prosperity, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.³ She married Unknown Dillon.^2,4,3 Sandra Kay McGuffin was born on September 24, 1946 at Prosperity, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^1,3 As of August 21, 1965,her married name was Gunter.¹ She married Jerry Lee Gunter on August 21, 1965 at Glen Morgan, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.¹ Sandra Kay McGuffin died on September 22, 2018 at West Virginia at age 71.³

     Frank Oakey Wood was buried at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia.^1,2 He was born on April 17, 1901 at Fayette Co., West Virginia.^3,1 He married Bessie Lee McNeil, daughter of Casabianca A. "Cas" McNiel and Nancy Ann Smith, on January 16, 1924 at Eccles, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.³ Frank Oakey Wood and Bessie Lee McNeil were divorced before September, 1929.⁴ Frank Oakey Wood died on April 28, 1938 at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 37.^1,2 He Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon for Frank Oakey Wood, 37, who died at 11:10 Thursday night at St. Luke’s hospital. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Park cemetery. Mr. Wood, a resident of Bluefield for the past ten years, had been a patient at the hospital for forty-nine days during which time he had submitted to two operation. He had been in failing health for the past eight years and had been able to work only at intervals. The pallbearers will be Clarence Thomas, O. H. Miff, J. W. White, W. M. Hurt, Geece Gillespie and W. S. Shumate. Mr. Wood was born at Elk Ridge W. Va., son of Charles F. and Margaret Johnston Wood, who now reside in Bluefield. He also is survived by the following brothers and sister: Mrs. Martha Lee, Mrs. Mary Hurt, Mrs. Ruth Self, Elmer and Bryson Wood, all of Bluefield; Mrs. James Kelly, Bluefield, Va., and Mrs. Violet McNeal, of Glen White, W.Va. on April 30, 1938.²

Born February 11, 1929, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Daphna Houck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold (Tag) McVey, and brothers Carl and Billy. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Harold (Chip) McVey of Pemberton; daughter, Patty Lombardo and her husband Tony; sister, Jody Shorr and husband Clarence; grandchildren, Andrew (Drew) McVey and wife Heather of Alderson, Allen (whom she called Allie pooh) McVey and wife Crissy of Beckley, Sean Lombardo and wife Barbara and Sandy Crowe; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Summer, Mathew, Chase, Trace, and Elijah McVey; Justin, Heather and Seth Wyco; Michael, Wesley, Amber and Christopher Lombardo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Betty accepted the Lord and was saved on August 24, 1946, and baptized by the Reverend Walker in Pemberton. She was very active in teaching Sunday school and other church duties at the Mantua Country Baptist Church in Ohio which she and her husband Tag started in a little barn on their property. Several years before moving to West Virginia, Betty was employed at the Anna Marie Nursing Home in Ohio as a LPN. Betty was a very lovely lady who enjoyed embroidery painting, working outdoors with her flowers, raising a small garden, traveling with her husband, singing gospel songs and reading her Bible as well as living by it. At Christmas, Betty would always bake a special birthday cake for Jesus to celebrate his birth with his family and friends. on April 11, 2012.²

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ewell "Pete" Riffe. Leona was born May 4, 1936, to the late Mack and Lillian Dancy. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Beckley, WV, and a member of Bryantsville United Methodist Church in Bryantsville, Kentucky. Surviving are a son, Jerry Riffe (Sue) of Washington, a daughter, Shelvy Jean Riffe (Paul) of Garrard County, Ky; three granddaughters: Dawna Jean Garten, Samantha Damron (Jonathan), and Leah (husband Taylor) Swanson; and one sister, Kay Bernhardt of Colorado. Funeral services 7PM Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Spurlin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7PM Sunday. Entombment will be at 2:30PM Monday, April 3, 2017, at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Beckley, WV.
