She was born in Caldwell County , N.C., May 16, 1914, a daughter of the late David Monroe Hilton and Sarah Bright Hilton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Lee Hamby; three sons; Howard, Fred, Dennis Hamby; one daughter, Louise Torrance; one brother, Dewey Helton; four sisters, Ethel Hamby, Caddie Belle Lowman, Irene Young and Maecille Yount; and three infant siblings; one son-in-law, Roger Dula. Mrs. Hamby was a strong believer in God. A member of Baton Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday school class, she loved gardening and watching the flowers grow. She is survived by her four sons, Lawrence Hamby and wife Elby of Granite Falls, Tom Hamby and wife Glenda of Granite Falls, Ronald Hamby and wife Regina of Lenoir, and Donald Hamby of the home; two daughters, Hazel Crafton and husband Charles of Hickory, Marcella Dula of Granite Falls; one adoptive granddaughter, Diane Hamby of Granite Falls. She was an dored and dedicated grandmother to 37 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a number of great-great-grandchildren.The family received friends Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Mackie-High. The funeral for Mrs. Hamby will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Baton Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Baton Baptist Church Building Fund, 1332 Baton Church Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630. on June 23, 2009.¹

     John Lawrence Hamby was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Park, 2017 Wilkesboro Boulevard NE, Lenoir, Caldwell Co., North Carolina.² He Mr. John Hamby, age 78, of Granite Falls, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born April 11, 1935, son of the late Calvin Lee and Coleen Helton Hamby. He is survived by his loving wife, Elby Wilson Hamby of the home; one son, Robert Hamby and wife Mary of Granite Falls; three daughters, Annette Sane and husband Randy of Shelby, NC, Evelyn Collier and husband Rufus of Granite Falls, Connie Richards and husband Ed of Lenoir; two sisters and three brothers; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; one sister, Louise Torrence; three brothers, Fred, Howard, and Dennis Hamby. The family will receive friends at Mackie Funeral Home, Granite Falls, on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 27, 2014, 2:00 P.M. at Mackie Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Parker and Rev. Ed Richards officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
