     Irene Sevant was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.² Her married name was King.¹ She married Morgan Mahone King, son of Paul Robert King and Carrie Poff.^1,2 Irene Sevant was born on June 12, 1925 at New Jersey.^2,3 She died on February 6, 2015 at Virginia at age 89.² She Irene Sevant King, 89, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2015. She was born in New Jersey, a daughter of the late Jack Sevant and Stella Minnix Sevant and had been an area resident most of her life. She was a long time member of Beacon Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan King, and a brother, Leonard Sevant. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Kim Hubbard and her husband Ron; a son, Mark King; loving sisters, Ruby Sollie and Juanita Musser; four grandchildren, Morgan King, Brittany King, Rachel Hubbard and Karin Hubbard, three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; former daughter-in-law, Brenda King, and dear friends, George and Lois Hubbard, and Betty Lou Foster. The family would like to take this opportunity to express sincere thanks to her grandson, Morgan, who served as her caregiver during the last months of her life, and to Dr. Karri and the staff of Southern Care Hospice. Jim served proudly in the U. S. Navy for 27 years as a yeoman and retired as a chief petty officer. He, also, worked at NARF and TPU at Naval Station Norfolk for 20 years. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, Jan. 11th in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. The family will greet friends from 2 to 3:00 P.M. before the service. She is survived by her loving husband, James E. Rigg (U.S. Navy, retired, formerly of Alderson), with whom she had shared 56 years of marriage; six children, James Rigg of Jacksonville, Fla., Cherryl Hartman of Norfolk, Edward Rigg of South Boston, Va., Richard Rigg of Chesapeake, Va., Patricia Rodriguez of Virginia Beach, Va., and John Rigg of Virginia Beach; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rebecca Parker of Alaska and Nancy McCallister of Florida. Joan was preceded in death by a daughter, Constance; and a great-grandson, Corey. Joan was well known for her skills at cooking, baking and sewing. Many friends, neighbors, co-workers and naval personnel enjoyed countless meals, breads, pies, cakes, cookies and other treats over the years, which “Mom” was very fond of providing for everyone who entered her home or called her “friend.” She was actively involved in Cub Scouting from 1970 to 1978, serving as a den mother for much of that time. She retired from Norfolk Public Schools in 1994 with 20 years of service as the library assistant at Camp Allen Elementary School. He was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and was a farmer all of his life. He is survived by six sons, Henry, Floyd, Walter, of Shady Spring; Dolph of Hinton, Steve and Jobe, of Shady Spring; two daughters, Mrs. Rosie Gay, of Mt. Solon, Va., and Mrs. Willie Jolly, Shady Spring; 35 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. The body will remain at the Keyser Funeral Home pending the completion of funeral arrangements. on June 2, 1949.⁸
