Rodger Lee Chatting Rodger Lee Chatting, 76, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away after a long illness with family by his side on Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was born Monday, November 4, 1946 at the Radford Hospital, and lived in Floyd county until the age of 11. He was a 50 year member of the local union 491 where he was a pipefitter and steamfitter. He enjoyed his numerous cars, but especially time with his family. Rodger was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Reva Chatting; and grandson, Lyric Chatting. He survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Chatting; sons, Troy (Cheryl) and Todd (Liz); grandchildren, Ryder, McKayla, McKenzie, Elissa, and Elijah; special great granddaughter, Eva Mae; brother, Ronald; sister, Patricia (Alan); many special, friends, nieces, and nephews. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.4 He was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.4 He was born on November 4, 1946 at Radford, Virginia.2,4 He married Doris Jean Smith on July 7, 1967 at Roanoke, Virginia.2 Rodger Lee Chatting died on May 20, 2023 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 76.4

(later Dresser Industries) after 35 years, working as an engineer both in Columbus, Ohio and Greenville, South Carolina. After retirement, he worked as an engineer for CRSSirrine. He honorably served our country during World War II as a medic in the U.S. Army, serving in five countries in Europe, Northern Ireland, England, France, Belgium and Germany. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dolores Bruce Epperly; a son, Philip Epperly and wife, Cindy, of Pataskala, Ohio; a daughter, Kathryn Nethers and husband, Larry, of Greencastle, Indiana; a sister, Sarah Fortney and husband, Ernest, of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Warren Epperly and wife, DeEtta, of Williamstown, West Virginia; his mother-in-law, Madaline Sholl of Pataskala, Ohio; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his favorite cousin, The Rev. Harry B. Christie in February of this year. Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Greenville on April 24, 2008 with funeral services following at 4 p.m. conducted by Rev. W. Michael Bruce and Rev. Carol Allison. Burial will follow at a later date at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Warren Christie Epperly Another veteran has died…Warren Christie Epperly, 83, of Williamstown, WV, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, WV. He was born January 29, 1927 in Radford, VA to Raymond E. and Faye Christie Epperly. He was a graduate of Fairmont West High School and graduated from West Virginia University with an engineering degree. He was a member of the Pi Tau Sigma Engineering Honorary. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had worked for Westinghouse in Fairmont, WV and retired from American Cyanamid at Willow Island. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown, where he had once served as chairman of the board, and a member of the Williamstown Lions Club. Warren is survived by his wife, De Etta Y. Gettings Epperly, they were married on July 15, 1950. He is also survived by a daughter, Margaret Epperly, of Winston Salem, NC, a son, Mark, of Marietta, a sister, Sarah Fortney (Ernest), of Columbus, OH, sister-in-law, Dolores Epperly, of Greer, SC, aunt, Esther Epperly, of Radford, VA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond, Jr. and a cousin, Rev. Harry B. Christie. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Williamstown, with Dr. Steve Gedon officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, and also for one hour prior to his services at the church on Tuesday. His burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Donations may be made to the church at 304 W. 5th. They were married for 61 years. Born in Fairmont, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Madaline Davis Bruce Brown Sholl and Genessee Bruce, a homemaker and member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Dolores worked as an assistant to decorators at Lazarus in Columbus, Ohio. Surviving are one daughter, Kathryn A. Nethers (Larry) of Greenville; one son, Philip R. Epperly (Cindy) of Pataskala, Ohio; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a sister, Betty Jean Freeland. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. on November 10, 2016.3

She was born January 5, 1926 to Mabel Franklin Gettings and Harold Perry Gettings in Williamstown. DeEtta graduated from Williamstown High School in 1944 and attended the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing, where she was in the Cadet Nurse Corps. She later transferred to Holzer Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN. She worked as an OR nurse at Holzer, Fairmont General, and Marietta Memorial hospitals. She married Warren Christie Epperly on July 15, 1950 and they were married over 60 years until his death on January 21, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Jane Epperly, of Winston-Salem, NC and her son, Mark Christie Epperly, of Marietta, OH, in addition to many cousins, nieces and nephews. DeEtta was preceded in death by her grandparents, DeEtta Billings Gettings and James Wigal Gettings, in whose home she was raised, as well as her parents and her husband.
