Harvel, 51, formerly of Buchanan, died unexpectedly Tuesday in Germany where he was serving as a field officer with the American Red Cross. He was born Aug 23, 1919 in Jonesville, Va., and came to Buchanan with his parents when he was seven years old. A 1938 graduate of Buchanan High School, he en tered the Navy in 1939 serving until 1945 when he retired as a chief warrant officer. In 1946 he enlisted in the Army and was a master sergeant when he left the service in 1962 to take a post with the Red Cross. He served as a field officer in Vietnam for two years before he went to Germany three years ago. In June 1941 he married Allison Gore in New York City, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Patrick at home, and Michael with the Army in Vietnam; two daughters, Mrs. Diane Duering of Schoolcraft and Mrs. Linda Adams of San Antonio, Tex., a sister, Mrs. Carl Runyan of Buchanan and four grandchildren. Services have not been scheduled. on January 28, 1971.5
