The family moved to the Roanoke Valley in 1956 where they supported growth in the Garden City Church of the Nazarene and later the Hollins Church of the Nazarene where she received special recognition for 20 plus years of service in the Nursery Department. Surviving are her children, Freddie Dalton (Bill), Susie Poff, and Audrey Poff (Wilson), all residing in the Roanoke area, Betty Rodabaugh (Larry), of Milwaukee, Wis., Doris Moses (Joe), of Nashville, Tenn., Lynwood Sweeney (Skip), of Helen, Ga., and Wayne Sweeney (Janette), of Salem. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; 32 greatgrandchildren; 15 great-greatgrandchildren; brother, Horace Vest; and sister, Allie Vest, of Check, Va. The family would like to express a special thanks to the Rev. Lynn Riddle of Hollins Church of the Nazarene and Drs. Hooper and Somorin, and the caring nursing staff on the 3rd Floor at Lewis Gale Hospital. A Graveside Service will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. on January 29, 2011.6

     Eileen Rose Schanzenbach was born on March 22, 1920 at Shelby, Buffalo Co., South Dakota.5,3 She married Gilbert Dexter Yates, son of Franklin Lucas "Frank" Yates and Martha Alieene Hutton, on May 10, 1942 at Wapato, Yakima Co., Washington.1,2,3,4 As of May 10, 1942,her married name was Yates.2 Eileen Rose Schanzenbach died on January 4, 2015 at Hayden, Kootenai Co., Idaho, at age 94.3,5 She YATES, Eileen Rose (Age 94) Of Hayden, Idaho died January 4, 2015 at Wellspring Meadows. She was born March 22, 1920 in Selby, South Dakota to Jacob and Lydia Schanzenbach. She grew up in South Dakota and moved with her family to Wapato, Washington during the depression. She graduated from Wapato High School where she was nicknamed "The Song Bird" and worked her way through Nursing School at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Yakima, Washington. She was married to Gilbert Yates on May 10, 1942 in Wapato, WA. During W.W. II Eileen worked as a surgical nurse at Providence Hospital in Seattle, WA while Gilbert served overseas with the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. At the end of the war they made their home in Coeur d'Alene and together founded the Yates Funeral Home and Ambulance Service. As a registered nurse Eileen was very helpful with the ambulance service. She also worked part time for Dr. Hughes and volunteered her nursing skills for School District #271, the Camp Fire Girls camp, and church camp. Eileen's greatest passion was music. As a young child she sang in a German Congregational Church choir directed by her father and accompanied by her older sister. She joined the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d'Alene in 1945 and sang soprano in the choir for over 40 years. Eileen also taught Sunday school and was active in the Women's Association. She was active in Eastern Star, Job's Daughters, Daughters of the Nile and Lady Lions. She was a charter member of P.E.O. Chapter BF and was the longest living member of her chapter. After her children were raised, Eileen developed an interest in golf and became a member of the Coeur d'Alene Public Golf Club and the Hayden Lake Country Club. Eileen will truly be remembered as a faithful servant, volunteering for numerous worthwhile causes, and working tirelessly behind the scenes for her family, church and community. She was part of the "Greatest Generation" whose life made a difference. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her six brothers and two sisters, and her husband, Gilbert in 2008. She is survived by her son, Dexter Yates (Karen) of Hayden, ID; her daughters, Patty Rodriguez (Rico) of Post Falls, ID and Pam Cromer of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Jeff Yates (Jen) of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Eli Yates (Ingrid) of Hayden, ID, Matt Ziegler of Walnut Creek, CA, Ben Ziegler (Kim) of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Paul Ziegler of Walnut Creek, CA, Katie Ziegler of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Anthony Rodriguez (Raenel) of Post Falls, ID, Richard Rodriguez (Elizabeth) of Spokane, WA and Taliea Harrell (William) of Sacramento, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. The visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d'Alene. A reception will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens. on January 6, 2015.3

Bette is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Edmonds and husband, Michael, and her grandchildren, Zane and Grace Edmonds who brought so much joy to her life and who always referred to her as their "GiGi." She is also survived by her special nieces, Karleta Wood and Mitzi Faron (David) who both took great loving care of her during her brief illness. She is also survived by her nephew, Jonathan Waldron (Sue); niece, Susan Thomas (George); great-nephew, Thomas Faron (Brittany); and great-great-niece, Josephine Faron. Bette retired from Shenandoah Life Insurance Company where she worked over 40 years. In her retirement she enjoyed reading, watching videos, working puzzles, and doing mission work. Bette cherished all of her friends. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and talking with them on the phone. Bette was loved very much by her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed. Bette was a woman of strong faith. Her faith was an inspiration to everyone she met. Her favorite quote was from Dr. Billy Graham, "If anyone says I'm dead, don't believe it... I've only changed addresses to Heaven, and I am more alive than ever!" The family would like to give a very special thank you to Bette's close friend, Delores Thompson, for her love and care during Bette's brief illness. A Graveside Service will be held at at Copper Hill Cemetery. on January 25, 2024.9
