Vernon. He served two years in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return, he lived on the family ranch near Mt. Vernon and attended an auctioneer's school in Indiana. Mr. Tanler became a charter member of the John Day Elks on Sept. 9, 1950. In 1957 he moved to Redmond where he worked as an auctioneer for the Redmond Auction Yard. He eventually purchased the yard in partnership with Ross Every and became a well-known auctioneer and cattle buyer. He auctioneered many of the Grantski auctions held annually in John Day. Mr. Tanler died of a heart attack on May 23, 1974. Survivors include his widow, the former Carol Timms, who became his wife Oct. 14, 1946, in Stevenson, Wis. on June 25, 2003.2

Together they had three children: son Keith Leedy (children: Kelley Branstetter and Alana Barclay), daughter Nachele Farden (children: Greg Farden, Jeff Farden and Jolene Gallegos) and daughter Karen Yates (children: Leslie Doerr, Kari Swanson and Leah Barkes). After her husband Keith passed, Frances later married Joe Odlivak. Frances passed away on June 5, 2017 and is now reunited with her son Keith and granddaughter Leah. She will be remembered at a graveside service for family and friends at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise, Idaho at 11:00 a.m. on June 13, 2017. on June 11, 2017.1

Funeral services were held from the Driskill Mortuary chapel in John Day, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Josie Bach. Interment was in the Canyon City cemetery. on October 8, 1943.1

Richard McKern, 42, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at 6:02 o'clock Thursday morning at his ranch home near Mount Vernon, according to investigating officers, Sheriff Robert W. Damon and Coroner J. Carl Driskell. The Mount Vernon rancher took his own life with a single shot from an old 12-gauge single barrel shotgun. The act was committed on the back porch of the home a few minutes after he had awakened and dressed preparatory to doing the morning ranch duties. Officers state that he left no note. McKern, who was prominent resident in the Mount Vernon community, was a member of the school board of district No. 6. He is survived by his widow, Inez, four small daughters and other relatives. on July 25, 1952.5

He graduated from Oregon State University in 1921 with a degree in economics. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. Mr. Scea entered the fruit business in 1921 in Milton-Freewater, Ore., with H.S. Denison and Company. He opened a branch office for the company in Wenatchee in 1924 and served as president and manager until his retirement in 1981. He was president of the Chelan Apple Company until the company was sold in 1980. He married Vida McKern in 1927 at San Francisco, Calif. They made their home in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee. Mr. Scea was active in many community organizations. He provided longtime leadership in the Boy Scouts and Deaconess Hospital. He was past president of the Wenatchee Rotary Club and the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club. He was a life member of the YMCA, American Legion Post No. 10, Riverside Masonic Lodge No. 112, Masonic York Rite Bodies and El Katif Shrine. He was an active member of Wenatchee First United Methodist Church. He was director of Columbia Federal Savings Bank from 1941 to 1985 and served on boards of the Washington State Apple Commission and Northwest Horticultural Council. He was president of the International Apple Association from 1941 to 1942. He was named Boy Scout Distinguished Citizen in 1981, Outstanding Apple Citizen in 1987 and Outstanding Friend of Wenatchee Valley College in 1988-89. He is survived by a son, Robert M. of Wenatchee; and two grandsons, Paul E. Scea of Morgantown, W.Va., and Gregory R. Scea of Gig Harbor. Scea, 61, a longtime Wenatchee resident, passed away on Monday morning, May 4, 1998, at Central Washington Hospital. She was born on Sept. 5, 1936, at Everett, to John C. and Helen (Swanson) Emmons. She moved with her family to Wenatchee when she was 4 years old. She was raised and schooled in Wenatchee, attending Columbia Elementary, H.B. Ellison Junior High and Wenatchee High School, graduating in 1954. She continued her education at the University of Washington. On Sept. 7, 1957, she was married to Robert "Bob" Scea in Wenatchee. They made their home together in Seattle while they were finishing their educations. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in education in 1958. They returned to Wenatchee, where she became a homemaker and they have since made their home. Linda was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Junior Wenatchee Hospital Guild, the Wenatchee Hospital Guild and the Wenatchee Womens Club. She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Scea, Wenatchee; her father, John C. "Jack" Emmons, East Wenatchee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul E. and his wife Virginia of Morgantown, W.Va., and Gregory R. and his wife Anne of Gig Harbor.
