Allen/Allan Blair BLAIR, ALLEN - Amherst, Oct. 15, 1832. Born, July 8, 1754, in Amherst. In 1780 was drafted three months under Capt. Younger Landrum and marched to join Gen. Gates in North Carolina, but before his time was out employed William Bowman, as substitute. In 1781 he again marched under Landrum, this time to join Gen. Greene. He was not in battle of Guilford, but so near that he saw dead and wounded men removed from the field. He saw Gen. Edward Stevens badly wounded in the thigh. Shortly after was again drafted, and under Capt. John Loving marched to Williamsburg, where he took sick of fever and was in hospital a considerable time. A little before the close investment of Yorktown, he was discharged from hospital and sent to the New Barracks. Soon the forces at this place were ordered to join the besieging army, but applicant was discharged, his time being nearly out and the surgeon deeming him too feeble for active service. Served six months in all.5 He was born on July 8, 1754 at Amherst Co., Virginia.5 He married Mary Ann Staples on December 14, 1778 at Amherst Co., Virginia.2 Allen/Allan Blair Private Virginia Militia, $30 annual allowance, $75 received on Apr 15, 1833, pension started at age 80 on April 15, 1833 at Amherst Co., Virginia.6 He died on April 23, 1835 at Amherst Co., Virginia, at age 80.4

Dixon, 40, died Monday at 11 a.m. in a Charlottesville, Va., hospital. Death was attributed to leukemia. She had been ill seven months. A member of the Alderson Presbyterian Church, she was born in Carthage, Ill., Dec. 18, 1921, a daughter of the late John Sherman Altizer and Elsie Rhea Alitzer of New Burn, Va., who survives. Other survivors are her husband, Thomas William Dixon; a son, Thomas William Dixon Jr; four brothers, Virgil F. Altizer, of Mount Sterling, Ill., John Sherman Altizer Jr. and Robert E. Altizer, both of Woodsfield, Ohio; and Johnnny Joe Altizer of New Burn, Va; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Formea of San Carlos, Calif., and Mrs. Robert Morrow of Anchorage, Alaska. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Alderson Prysbyterian Church with the Rev. William O. Smith, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the Fietcher Addition Cemetery. Members of the church will serve as pallbearers and women of the church will carrv flowers. on August 1, 1962.3
