After he was discharged, he enrolled at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) and was graduated in the Class of 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Bill started his career with Arlington County in 1960 and went on to become Arlington's Chief Traffic Engineer until his retirement in 1992. While working in Traffic Engineering he was instrumental implementing residential permit parking. Bill and Connie enjoyed traveling and were lucky to have visited all 50 states and 6 continents. Bill was an avid HOKIE and attended every football game possible and they went to many bowl games. Bill and Connie have also set up scholarships for students at Wakefield, Washington-Lee and Yorktown High School for those entering VATECH and enrolling in the College of Engineering. There are 2 scholarships for each school. on February 23, 2015.⁵

Paulette enjoyed going out to eat, playing Bingo and music especially gospel. Survivors include a sister, Kathleen (Paul) Jones of Tuscarawas; a brother, Byron (Twila) Polen of St. Clair Shores, Mich; a niece and four nephews; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Paulette was preceded in death by two sisters, Jacqueline Pineda and Deborah Wilde; a brother, Larry Polen; and a niece, Rachelle Jones. Burial will be in New Cumberland Cemetery. on October 31, 2012.²

She was active in numerous organizations including the Moose, Eagles and VFW Auxiliaries. She was a member of the Tuscarawas County CB Club, Tuscarawas County Handicapped Society and the Church of the Living God in New Philadelphia. She attended New Philadelphia High School. Jackie is survived by two sisters, Paulette A. Polen of Uhrichsville and Kathleen (Paul) Jones of Tuscarawas; a brother, Byron "Skip" (Twila) Polen of Clinton Township, Mich; her fiancé, Jerry Butler of Dover, along with a niece and four nephews. In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Polen, a sister, Deborah F. Wilds, and a niece, Rachelle Jones. At her request, she will be cremated, and interment will be in New Cumberland Cemetery. on February 6, 2008.²
