Sowder and husband Jeff C. Sowder of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Mary Catherine Sowder; two sisters-in-law, Dorsie Graham of Oakton and Neva Olson of Charlottesville; also a beloved aunt, Cassie C. Campbell of Vinton; one niece and one nephew. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on July 13, 1995.2

Following his retirement from Aberdeen Proving Ground, Mr. Owens worked for several years with the circulation department of the Cecil Whig in Elkton, MD, where he performed a variety of duties peculiar to the Cecil Whig and other publications of the Chesapeake Publishing Corp. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the SEABEES in the South Pacific and taking part in the Marianas and Guam campaigns. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 135, Perryville, MD, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1400, member at large, SEABEE Veterans of America, Island X-5, Lancaster, PA, and the SEABEE Historical Foundation, Gulfport, MS. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter No. 1522. Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his sister, Georgia Owens Arnold; brother, Walter James Owens; and son, Richard W. Owens. Mr. Owens is survived by his wife of 24 years, Evelyn B. "Lynn" Ryan Owens; two sons, William and Roger Owens of Elkton, MD; two daughters, Lois Thornton of Phoenix, AZ, and Melissa Dolan of Chambersburg, PA; two stepsons, Charles Ryan of Jessup, MD, and Michael Ryan of Perry Point; MD; step-daughter, Cynthia Ryan of Peach Bottom, PA; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; and six step-grandchildren. Interment will be in Principio Cemetery, Perryville, MD. on April 17, 2009.4

Moore of Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene, Colora, MD, will officiate. Interment will be in Principio Cemetery, Perryville, MD. on December 6, 2006.3
