Survivors Include his wife, Florence; three sons, Kenneth of Cuba, Ill., Edgar of David City and Donald of Kansas City, Mo; two daughters, Eleanor Mahlin of Columbus, Neb., and Hazel M. Olson of Scottsdale; 13 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren. on January 29, 1974.7

Thomas, 47, a native of David City and vice president of Title Guaranty Co. of Denver, who died Monday, March 30, at St. Anthony Hospital of cancer. Officiating were the Rev. Clifford L. Scott and the Rev. Roy Bishop. Burial was at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr. Thomas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Thomas, was born in David City where he graduated from high school. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, and in 1942 received his law degree from the University of Nebraska Following Army service in World War II, he moved to Denver and in 1946 became affiliated with the Title Guaranty Co. In 1955 he was named manager of the firms Lakewood office. He was active in the YMCA, Boy Scouls of America, Rotary-Club, United Fund, March of Dimes, Red Cross, Jefferson County Mental Health Society, and the Jefferson County Board of Realtors. Also he was treasurer of the Jefferson County Democratic party; chairman of the County Planning and Zoning Commission; treasurer of the East Jefferson Chamber of Commerce; vice president of industries for Jefferson county; a director of the Jeffro Knife and Fork Club; a member of the Rolling Hills Country Club, El Jebel Temple of the Shrine, Scottish Rite Mason, and an elder and board member of the Lakewood Christian Church. Mr. Thomas was a former president of the Denver Exchange Club and past governor of the Exchange Club of Colorado. In 1960 he was awarded the distinguished service award of the East Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. Surviving him are his wife, Betty; two daughters, Sally Ann and Jean; one son, David; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Thomas of Phoenix, Ariz., two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Mahlin of Columbus and Mrs. Hazel Olson of Glendale, Ariz., and three brothers, Donald of Kansas City, Mo., Edgar of David City, and K. C. of Canton, Ill. on April 23, 1964.4

She then worked for her father in his law firm in David City. Eleanor married Norval Mahlin on January 29, 1935 and farmed in the Rising City area until 1945 when they moved to Columbus. Eleanor worked at the Columbus Hospital and later for Dr. R.C. Anderson until retiring. She then worked part time as a receptionist at the Platte County Court House. Eleanor joined the Eastern Star in David City on April 28, 1933 when she was 18 years old. She was a member for 81 years of the Alma Chapter #20 of the Eastern Star in David City. She was awarded for being the longest member of that Chapter. Eleanor was a member of the David City Alumni. She also was a member for the past 31 years of the Columbus Auxiliary to the V.F.W., as well as the Eagles Auxiliary for 25 years. Eleanor was married to Willie Krumland on February 6, 1976. Eleanor enjoyed her retirement and traveling to the Virgin Islands and Hawaii, as well as the western parts of the US. She was united in marriage to Ray Baker on May 11th, 2000 in Las Vegas on one of their many trips in the western part of the US. Eleanor is survived by her husband Ray Baker of Columbus; children: Ginger Zabka of Santee, Calif; Nancy (Herbert) Schultz of Columbus; Melvin (Susan) Mahlin of Columbus; Onno J. (Joyce) Mahlin, Idaho Falls, Idaho; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands Norval Mahlin and Willie Krumland; parents; brothers, Edgar, Jack, Ivan, and Don; one sister, Hazel Olson; and one grandson. on June 26, 2014.3

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandson, Andrew Seymour Meacham. JoAnn attended Oakwood Schools and the University of Illinois where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She lived in Oakwood for many years and was an active member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, pianist and choir member. She was involved in numerous organizations and was instrumental in chartering the first kindergarten at Oakwood Grade School. After moving to Danville in 1977, JoAnn became a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she joined the choir and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She was also active in the Danville Women's Club. JoAnn spent most of her life as a homemaker, but she had worked at both the Oakwood State Bank and Lake Shores National Bank in Danville. She had enjoyed both golf and bridge in her earlier years, and most recently, she loved spending time with her family and watching Illini basketball. She felt she had been truly blessed in life with wonderful parents, a loving husband of 42 years and loving children. A celebration of the life of JoAnn Seymour will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville, with Rev. Tiffany Black officiating. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church in Danville to help in assisting the disabled and seniors at the church.
