     Donald Glen Southard Jr. was buried at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Tuckahoe, Henrico Co., Virginia.³ He was born on December 22, 1978 at Henrico Co., Virginia.^2,3 He died on August 6, 2005 at Ashland, Hanover Co., Virginia, at age 26.³ He Donald "Glen" Southard Jr. was 4 1/2 years old when doctors discovered he had Duchenne muscular dystrophy, an incurable genetic disease that makes muscles deteriorate. Doctors told his mother that he would be in a wheelchair in three to five years and would be lucky to live 10 years. Mr. Southard, the Central Virginia Muscular Dystrophy Association's longtime poster child, died in his sleep early Saturday at his home in Ashland. He was 26. Burial will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park in Henrico County. "Glen was sent as a messenger from God to teach us a lesson every day. His faith is what gave him the strength he needed," said his mother, Betty Hart of Ashland. "Even though he couldn't scratch his nose, brush his teeth, turn over in bed or go to the bathroom by himself, he never complained," she said. "He always had a smile on his face. His brothers were his arms and legs. He loved them so much, and they were so good to him." Mr. Southard graduated from Patrick Henry High School and took college-level classes until muscle weakness made it too difficult to take notes. Until he grew too sick, he worked a job especially created and equipped for him by Keener Communications, an answering-service business. Mr. Southard was a natural athlete, and he played in the Ashland Little League while he was still walking. "All Glen wanted to do was play baseball," his mother said "His dream was to hit the winning home run in the World Series," said his stepfather, Walter A. Hart. Though later unable to play himself, Mr. Southard taught his brothers to play baseball. "Glen taught everybody," his mother said. "He had patience and the view. He touched everyone he met in some way." He walked until he was 13, when a go-cart accident shoved a sprocket through his foot and up his leg to his knee. Unable to use crutches, he sat in a wheelchair while his leg was in a cast. With the inactivity, his muscles atrophied, and doctors thought he wouldn't walk again. But his mother said, "When Glen went for his monthly MD checkup, he told his doctor he had a surprise for him. Glen stood and walked to his doctor, who was at the end of the hall." The doctor wept. When Mr. Southard eventually lost his walking ability, he received his first electric wheelchair when he was in the ninth grade. "He drove it around and around our driveway saying, 'I'm free! I'm free!'" his mother said. He participated in numerous fundraisers for muscular dystrophy and gave inspirational talks in the community. "Glen never let his disability get to him," his mother said. "He did more things in those 26 years than most people who live to be 74. I know that he's finally hit that home run." Survivors also include his father, Donald Southard Sr. of Ashland; a brother, Hunter Southard of Ashland; two stepbrothers, Walter "Wally" Hart of Bluefield and Kyle Hart of Ashland; his grandparents, Dorothy M. Walder of Reedville, and Donald and Norma Southard of Williamsburg; and his stepgrandparents, Louise and Harvey Ragland of Dawn. on August 9, 2005.³

     His Social Security Number was 404-38-2909.³ Douglas Leighton Massey was buried at Berea Cemetery, Berea, Madison Co., Kentucky.⁵ He married Joyce Ann Sheffield, daughter of Weaver Charles Sheffield and Wanda Rose Pipes.^1,6,4 Douglas Leighton Massey was born on June 19, 1932.³ He died on March 13, 1970 at Berea, Madison Co., Kentucky, at age 37.^2,4 He CLYDE - Douglas L. Massey, 33, dean of labor at Berea College, Berea, Ky., a native of Somerset, Ky., was killed Thurs day night in Berea when his car skidded on an icy road and struck a utility pole. surviving are the widow, the former Joyce Sheffield of Clyde; two daughters, Leah and Amy Massey of the home; two brothers and two sisters of Somerset. Services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday in Union Church at Berea. on March 14, 1970.⁴

     His Social Security Number was 273-36-4379.⁵ Dr. Carl Wayne Kesner was buried at Berea Cemetery, Berea, Madison Co., Kentucky.² He married Joyce Ann Sheffield, daughter of Weaver Charles Sheffield and Wanda Rose Pipes.¹ Dr. Carl Wayne Kesner was born on July 17, 1941 at Milledgeville, Fayette Co., Ohio.^2,5 He died on July 15, 1996 at Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky, at age 54.^2,3,4,5 He BEREA - Dr. Carl W. Kesner, 54, died Monday in Lexington. His wife, Joyce, survives. Funeral, 11 a.m. Thursday, Berea Cemetery. on July 16, 1996.⁴

     Alice Ann Applas was buried at Clark Fork Cemetery, Clark Fork, Bonner Co., Idaho.^4,3 She was born on July 16, 1918 at Polson, Lake Co., Montana.^2,3 As of April 7, 1938,her married name was Sheneman.¹ She married Paul Wendell Sheneman, son of Walter Albert Sheneman and Charlotte Eury "Lottie" Dillon, on April 7, 1938 at Kalispell, Flathead Co., Montana.^1,4 Alice Ann Applas and Paul Wendell Sheneman were divorced before October, 1944.^5,4 Alice Ann Applas died on February 13, 2017 at Sandpoint, Bonner Co., Idaho, at age 98.^4,3 She Alice Ann Krause, 98, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Private burial will be held at the Clark Fork Cemetery. Alice was born on July 16, 1918, in Polson, Montana, to Harry and Emma (Whitesitt) Applas. She graduated from Ronan High School, and married Paul Sheneman in Polson. Alice then married Leonard Higgins at Shelbyville, Indiana. Upon Leonard's death, Alice moved back to Montana, then Idaho, where she married Bruno Krause. Alice and Bruno enjoyed 24 wonderful years together, traveling throughout Alaska and all the Western states in pursuit of gold, and looking up old acquaintances while living in a camper. Many will remember them at the Bonner Mall in Sandpoint as Santa and Mrs. Claus every Christmas for 15 years. She opened a daycare center in Clark Fork, Idaho, at the age of 70, and worked as one of the first employees at Unicep at the age of 73. She was a senior companion, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Bonner County Gleaners. She continued to care for her great-grandchildren as she had for their parents and grandparents. She believed that every child should have the opportunity to attend Sunday school. Alice came to personal faith in Jesus Christ in her 30s, and that was the beginning of her great love for God and for the people He placed in her path. She consistently cared for others as being valuable in God's sight. She believed strongly that every child and every adult mattered to God and should have the opportunity to come to know the saving love of Jesus. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother John Applas; brother Harold Applas and sister-in-law Dorothy; husbands Leonard Higgins and Bruno Krause; daughter Betty Buckmaster; daughter-in-law Donna Higgins; great-grandson Gabriel Butchko; great-granddaughter Alice Buckmaster; and step-son-in-law Bruce Wilsey. She is survived by sons Jack (Audrey) Sheneman of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Dr. Paul (Lindsay) Sheneman of Lake Wales, Florida, Michael (Sandra) Higgins and David Higgins of Clark Fork; stepchildren Maxine Wilsey of Kennewick, Washington, Ben (Jeanette) Krause of Clarkston, Washington, and Steve (Lori) Krause of Lewiston, Idaho; niece Donna (Richard) Purvis of Columbus, Indiana; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren. on February 21, 2017.⁴
