Stanley Leon Mohar Jr.1,2,3

M, b. February 20, 1928, d. February 2, 2008
Stanley Leon Mohar Jr. was born on February 20, 1928 at San Francisco, San Francisco Co., California.2,4,3 He married Joyce Evelyn Millard, daughter of Wilson Harvey Millard and Hoyt Permelia McKern, on January 22, 1950 at Sonoma Co., California.1,3,5 Stanley Leon Mohar Jr. died on February 2, 2008 at Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., California, at age 79.4,3 He Stanley Leon Mohar Jr, 80, (Known for many years to his friends and associates in the grocery business as Moe) passed away suddenly at home in Santa Rosa on Saturday morning, February 2, 2008. Moe was just a few weeks shy of his 80th birthday. Born February 20, 1928 in San Francisco, CA, Moe moved to Petaluma with his parents Stanley and Mary Mohar at the age of one. Moe worked after school at Pacific Market, his parent's small neighborhood grocery store. He graduated from Petaluma High School in 1946. In the late 40's through the early 50's, Moe played semi-pro football as a running back for the Petaluma Leghorns. He met and fell in love with local girl Joyce Millard and they married in 1950. Moe and Joyce bought into his parent's grocery store by applying Moe's entire paycheck of $50 per week to the debt. In those early years, the couple lived on Joyce's paycheck until the debt was repaid, and they became partners. Moe and Joyce were raising 3 sons (all born in the 1950's) when in 1963 with his father, he founded the large, modern Fiesta Market chain. The family business grew to include five stores, among them several Fiesta Markets and the original Food City Market in Roseland. Moe retired at the age of 57, and he and Joyce bought a travel trailer. Moe spent many years pulling that trailer throughout the U.S. and Canada. Trips to Blue Lake or the Coast often included the couple's grandchildren. Moe was happiest on the road, seeing the sites with Joyce, or stopping to fish, before returning home to Santa Rosa. For many years, the couple hosted large family gatherings at their home on Christmas Eve and barbeque parties on Independence Day. Moe really enjoyed visiting the grocery stores (renamed Pacific Market), and watching with delight as the third and fourth generations of family grocers made decisions for the evolving business. He often rolled his eyes in amusement at the changes. The family remembers Moe laughing that the new olive bars cost more than his house! Moe also enjoyed Monday lunches with his longtime Petaluma buddies. He was a lifelong member of the Elk¹s Club, Petaluma Lodge 901.
