Furrow, daughter of Stephen Allen "Steve" Furrow and Orpha Gaye Cooper, circa 1944.^1,3 Edwin Mayhan Duncan died on March 28, 2006 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 81.^4,3 He Edwin M. Duncan, 81, of 105 Bare Drive, Daniels, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born at Beaver on Jan. 15, 1925, he was the son of the late L. E. and Agnes Brash Duncan. Mr. Duncan was a retired employee of Ford Motor Co. in the Walton Hills division in Ohio with 30 years of service, retiring in 1985. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 32 in Beckley. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Furrow Duncan; four sisters, Jessie McMillion, Mary Frisk, Jean Warden and Margaret Morgan; and two brothers, James and Charles Duncan. Survivors include a son, Freddie Duncan of Mantua, Ohio; two grandchildren, Aaron and Eddie Lee Duncan; nine nieces, Belinda Marchland, Peggy Speaks, Jean Sharon Evans, Brenda Michelle, Nina, Cheryl, Sheila, and Sandy Furrow; eight nephews, Edwin Furrow Sr., David Furrow, John Frisk, David Warden, Charles Morgan, Steve Furrow, Joey Furrow, John Furrow; his best and closest friend, Frank Worrell, of Daniels; and good and loyal neighbors of Bare Drive and Lee Avenue in Daniels. Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel with Pastor Dennis Burks officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley. on March 30, 2006.³

Born September 7, 1925, in Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Cole, Sr. and Nannie Mae Snap Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bluefield. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Gearheart; two sons, Harry and James Gearheart; a daughter, Phoebe Barne; two brothers, Willie and Everett Cole; and one sister, Lucy Mae Cole. Survivors include two sons, Henry S. Gearheart of Bluefield and Tommy Gearheart of Ronoke, VA; one daughter, Peggy Lapral and her husband Dalfort of Roanoke, VA; one brother, John Wesley Cole, Jr of Morgton, N.C; 26 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She loved to dance, knit and crochet, she enjoyed cooking and holiday dinners and days at the pool. She was a fan of Nascar's Greg Biffle. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, James Arthur of Roanoke; her daughter; Rhonda Feather Leonard and husband, Ted; her loving terrier, Roxie; three sisters, Peggy Jones and husband, Kenny of Bristol, Tenn; Brenda Shepperd-Ryan of Roanoke and Phoebe Shepperd of Roanoke. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews as well as two god-sons. A service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Roanoke Chapel of Lotz Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Fred Fryar. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on April 25, 2006.³

     Her married name was Garland.² Brenda Gail Shepperd After a long, hard fight, Brenda Garland Johnson, succumbed to cancer Friday, April 12, 2019 surrounded by her family. She fought this disease with so much grace and strength until her last breath. She loved her two boys, her grandchildren as well as her work. She was the owner of Teaberry’s Café and Catering in Vinton, VA where she loved to keep busy and feed whomever walked through her doors. She is survived by her husband, Russ Johnson; children, son, Billy Garland and wife Patti Garland, and son, Tony Garland and wife Jessica Garland, step-daughter, Kelly Arthur, and step-daughter, Krissy Benson and husband Tater Benson; seven grandchildren, Michael Garland and fiancé, Kimberly Martin, Cassie Raymond and husband, Tyler Raymond, Summer Humphrey and husband, Steven Humphrey, Dalton Garland and wife, Katie Garland, Sydney Arthur, and Jacob and Audrey Benson; and four great-grandchildren, Cayden and Liam Humphrey, Maci Silva, and Wyatt Garland.⁵ She married William Dalton Garland.² Brenda Gail Shepperd was born on December 27, 1953 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,6 As of August 26, 1983,her married name was Ryan.² She married Matthew McKinley Ryan on August 26, 1983 at Roanoke, Virginia.² Brenda Gail Shepperd and Matthew McKinley Ryan were divorced on October 9, 2007 at Roanoke, Virginia.⁷ As of December 20, 2008,her married name was Johnson.² Brenda Gail Shepperd married Russell Edward Johnson on December 20, 2008 at Bedford Co., Virginia.^2,5 Brenda Gail Shepperd died on April 12, 2019 at Virginia at age 65.⁵
