Dixson, 61, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his home in Stillwater, Okla. Larry was born on Jan. 28, 1945, in Holdenville, Okla., to Lawrence Columbus Dixson and Mary Jo (Jernigan) Dixson. He was the youngest of three children and the only son. During his first two years, the family moved from Oklahoma to Oregon and then to Eloy, Ariz. He graduated from Casa Grande High School in 1962 and attended Arizona State University for two years. Prior to his marriage to Sallee (Mounkes) McClain, Larry had one daughter with Jane (Hatchett) Dixson. Larry and Sallee were married on Aug. 31, 1974, in Tempe, Ariz. On April 1, 1975, Larry flew to Fairbanks to work on the trans-Alaska oil pipeline; he was a welder's helper (Pipeliner's Union Local 798, Tulsa, Okla.) for two years. They moved to North Pole near Fairbanks in 1976. In November 1978, he went to work for Halliburton Energy Services; he retired from Halliburton in May, 1999. He worked in Fairbanks until 1993 when he, his wife and two sons moved to Stillwater. He worked in Prudhoe Bay after the move, flying to and from Alaska every two weeks until his retirement. While in Alaska he enjoyed snowmachining, running sled dogs, fishing for salmon and being the pit crew boss for Sallee's stock car. He was also an avid gardener, winning many ribbons at the Tanana Valley State Fair. After the move to Stillwater he and his wife managed a mobile home park from 1994 until 1998 when the family moved onto 10 acres. He then devoted his time to improving this property which he named "Lonely Rooster Ranch." After retiring, his expertise was still needed and, until his recent illness, he continued working for Halliburton as a consultant. During this post-retirement period he also worked for Oklahoma State University for two years, ran a custom hay baling operation for three years, managed a rental property and raised livestock and vegetables for his family and friends' use. Both sons were active in Scouting so Larry helped build many Pinewood Derby cars, went on campouts and worked on service projects. His most memorable Scouting event was when he and both sons went on a five-day trek at Tres Ritos, N.M., in 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sallee; two sisters, Dixie Clonts of Gilbert, Ariz. and Nita Douglas of Tempe, Ariz; daughter and son-in-law, Neetsey and Neil Roehm of Livermore, Calif; sons, Marcus and Benjamin of Stillwater; and three grandchildren, Trenton, Trevor and Tawney Roehm, all of Livermore. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Canterbury Center, c/o St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 516 West 3rd St. Stillwater, OK 74074. Condolences may be e-mailed to strodefh@aol.com or mailed to the home address at 2005 East 12th St., Stillwater, OK 74074.
