     James Kenneth "Jimmie" Johnson James Kenneth Johnson, born March 11, 1948, to Franklin and Leafa (Williams) Johnson, passed away suddenly on November 20, 2016. James loved his country and proudly served in the Navy, Army, and Coast Guard before retiring from active duty. He discovered a life-long love of travel and exploration while serving in our nation's military forces. He received many military honors and enjoyed telling stories of his many adventures with the Coast Guard and Navy. While stationed in Sacramento, California, he met and married the love of his life, Pamela Woods. Shortly after they married, he retired from active military duty and they were blessed with the arrival of their son, Justin Johnson. James graduated from Sacramento State University with a degree in English and went on to teach in secondary education. James thoroughly loved all sports, especially football and baseball. He coached youngsters in Little League Baseball and football at several high schools in the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay areas. James had a remarkable memory and loved to read books. He was talkative, friendly, and never knew a stranger.      Thomas McAlpin Stubbs Jr. Thomas McAlpin Stubbs, Jr. died on Friday 14 September 2012 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Myra Stubbs, his son and daughter, and two grandchildren. Tom was born in 1925 in Atlanta to Thomas McAlpin Stubbs and Beatrice Jefferson Stubbs, and was the eldest of three sons. He was raised in Ansley Park, graduating from Boys High School in 1943. After high school he joined the Navy and completed his pilot training at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi Texas during 1945, before studying Government at Harvard University on the GI bill, graduating in 1948. Tom also received a JD from the University of Georgia Lumpkin School of Law in 1952. For 10 years Tom practiced Law with the firm Rogers, Oxford, and Stubbs. From 1962 until 1965, Tom studied at The University of the South where he received a Masters in Divinity. He served the church full time until 1982 at St Mary's Church in Columbus, GA and St Augustine's, near Jonesboro. His first congregation was formed in 1965 when two small congregations, one black and one white, joined together. She was born on February 4, 1947 in Jamestown, New York to the late Thomas Clifton Town and June Helen Reardon Town. Mrs. Cole was a passionate person. It didn’t matter if she was talking about her family or her faith, she would encourage you to be a better person. Her presence will be greatly missed by not only her family but also her church family at Faith Harvest. Inurnment will be held at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens. Born April 30, 1949, in Roseburg, Ore., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elsie Foutz Stowers. Left behind to cherish her memory is her son, Robert Wayne Butterworth; daughter, Rebecca Barnes; and grandson, Michael Barnes; sister and best friend, Brenda Stowers; nephews, David Richard and Harold Jr; special friend of 40 years, Darlene Jordan; as well as aunts, cousins, and host of friends.      Kathleen Hamilton Verell was born on March 20, 1927 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,4 As of May 5, 1968,her married name was Sowder.¹ She married Eugene Ronald Sowder, son of Eugene Augustus "Gene" Sowder and Ora Curtis Poff, on May 5, 1968 at Roanoke, Virginia.¹ Kathleen Hamilton Verell and Eugene Ronald Sowder were divorced on September 18, 1975 at Roanoke, Virginia.³ Kathleen Hamilton Verell died on February 8, 2018 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 90.⁵ She Kathleen Verell Marshall, 90, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, as well as a compassionate nurse. Kathleen was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Roanoke, from the cradle, for a great part of her life. She was an active youth member and later served as a Sunday School teacher. Most importantly, Kathleen had a very strong faith, believed in the power of prayer, and had positive expectations as she journeyed through life's challenges. Kathleen graduated from the University of Virginia Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She was part of the Cadet Nurse Corps while in nursing school as World War II was coming to an end. Kathleen was a public health nurse with the Roanoke City Health Department for 35 years. Part of her many duties as a public health nurse was to serve the schools. Her children were always SO proud to have their mother come to their schools in her official capacity. Kathleen especially derived great satisfaction from her role, often as charge nurse, in the local and state health department clinics for children. These clinics, some of which were held at Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center, included young patients with cleft palate and orthopedic. disabilities. Kathleen also worked at the Salem Veterans Administration Hospital prior to having her children and later did occasional work at Lewis-Gale Hospital when it was located in downtown Roanoke. Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, Robert H. Verell Sr. and Hazel H. Verell; twin brothers, T. Jackson Verell and Robert H. Verell Jr; as well as half sister, Charlotte V. Reed. Survivors include daughters, Deborah Davis, and Sandra Scruggs Steven and Marshall; husband, Jack; son, grandsons, Steven Davis and Andrew Scruggs; granddaughters, Kimberly Thomas and Rebecca Marshall; brother, Richard Verell and wife, Ellen; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Verell; and numerous nieces and nephews. on February 14, 2018.⁵
