Dead on arrival at Raleigh General Hospital was Dewey Farley, a disabled veteran of World War II. Coal City Volunteer Fire Department Chief Von Bower said Farley, who was alone in his trailer, was burned almost beyond recognition. Bower was unable to give a definite cause for the fire but speculated that Farley was sitting in a chair and dropped a cigarette, touching off the fire that quickly spread throughout his mobile home. Bower said the mobile home and its contents, valued at around $17,000, were destroyed. The fire is being investigated by State Trooper R. D. Estepp. Born Dec 1, 1917 in Raleigh County, Farley was a son of the late Sullivan and Minnie Bower Farley. He lived most of his life in Raleigh County and attended the Coal City Baptist Church. Farley is survived by a half brother, Clarence Roy Bower of Coal City. The body is at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home.
