Born June 6, 1926, at Page, he was the son of the late Vance and Ethel May Reese Carper. A daughter, Deborah Carper; stepson, Kenny Kincaid; sisters, Emma Lou Kinnear and Donnie Paloma; brothers, Vance ?Buddy? Carper and Jimmy Carper; and a nephew, Brian Carper, also preceded him in death. Mr. Carper was a member of Kincaid First Church of God. He was a retired coal miner, having 31 years of service with Central Appalachian Coal Co. at Morris Creek, and a member of the UMWA. Frank was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having been involved in the first atomic bomb experiment "Operation Crossroads" on the USS Dixie, Bikini Atoll, in 1946 in the Marshall Islands.
Surviving: his wife of 39 years, Marjorie Lee Waugh Carper; stepson, Raymond Belmont and wife, Belinda, of Ingram Branch; sons, Frank "Fuzzy" Carper and wife, Chris, of Canton, Ohio, and Danny Carper of Chicago, Ill; sisters, Jerline Morris of Wake Forest, N.C., Sarah Peters and husband, Denny, of Kincaid, and Shirley Kincaid and husband, Don, of Mentor, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Mike Belmont of Nashville, Tenn., Keith Belmont, Gary Belmont and Doug Belmont, all of Oak Hill, Cami Suzza and husband, Jack, of Fayetteville, Jamie and Allison Carper, both of Canton, Deborah, Steven and Nina Carper, all of Chicago, and Dexter Thompson and Doug Kenney, both of Oak Hill; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jonathan, Nickolas, Kristen, Destiny, Kimmie and Caleb. Service was June 29 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Eugene Morris officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. McClung, in 1949 at Tokyo, Japan.3,1 Yoshiko "Yoshi" Hata died on March 8, 2013 at South Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 82.1 She Yoshiko Shockey, 82, of Nitro, passed away at Thomas Memorial Hospital on March 8, 2013. She was born in Oita, Japan, a daughter of the late Kohroku and Kikuye Hata. She met her husband, Paul, in 1946 and they were married in Tokyo, Japan, in 1949 and came to the USA in 1951. Yoshiko became an American citizen in 1956 and was very proud of her citizenship and never missed an election. Yoshiko finished high school in Oita, Japan, and graduated from Design and Fashion and Dressmaking School in Tokyo. She had worked for the Diamond Department Store in the bridal department. She also did private seamstress work for many prominient Charleston citizens. She was a member of Fairview UM Church, Kanawha Valley Christian Women's Association, Carbide Ladies Golf League, Carbide Bowling Leaague and the Nitro Senior and excercise group. Yoshiko was also preceded in death by her brother, Shoichi Hata. Mrs. Shockey is survived by her husband, Paul; son and wife, Paul Jr. and Pam Shockey of Cross Lanes; daughter and husband, Kay and Ray Little of Fairbanks, Alaska; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Takuko Hata of Osaka, Japan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Jarold Lanham officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. on March 10, 2013.1

Born September 18, 1937, at Pax, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Barbara Canterbury of Pax, W.Va. Janice and her husband, Buck, were owners of the "BuckStop" Store in Pax, W.Va., for the past 22 years. Janice loved to fish with her Aunt Josephine Hughes of Pax. She loved to garden and spend time with her family, and she especially loved her "Classic Cokes." She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Haden Holstein of Elyria, Ohio; a sister, Mitzi Cimino of Chrisman, Ill; and mother-in-law, Rachel Williams Meredith of Pax, W.Va. She was the beloved wife of Larry "Bucky" Meredith of Pax, W.Va., and the mother of Wesley Holstein and his wife, Shirley, of Grafton, Ohio, and Kim Holstein Downing of Pax, W.Va. She is also survived by two sisters, Connie Pearson and her husband, Howard, of Oak Hill and Judy Barley and her husband, Paul, of Maple Fork; two brothers, George Canterbury and his wife, Donna, of Maple Fork and Pat Canterbury and his wife, Jill, of Pax; grandchildren, Gina Kincaid of Pax, Jason (Katie) and Brandon Holstein of Grafton, W.Va., and Chet and Tyler Downing of Pax, W.Va; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ludwick and Park Kincaid, both of Pax. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mt. Hope, with Rev. Doug Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Pax Community Cemetery at Pax, W.Va. Friends may call at the funeral home in Mt. Hope from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Family members will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janice's memory to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
