     Lawrence Allen "Joe" Bolin Lawrence Allen "Joe" Bolin, age 82 of Petersburg, WV, formerly of Upper Tract, WV, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2012 at Grant County Nursing Home. He was born at Remington, VA on February 18, 1930, the son of the late Lewis Allen and Della May Thompson Bolin. Mr. Bolin was twice married. His first wife, Thelma Hartman Peck resides in Franklin and his second wife Rhoda Stump Bolin preceded him in death January 7, 2002. He was a member of the Main Mountain Free Will Baptist Church. He worked at Hott's Feed Mill, Clark's Auto, and for Gerald Sites. Mr. Bolin is survived by: 4 daughters, Rose Smith, of Bridgewater, VA, JoAnn Hinkle of Harrisonburg, VA, Jeannie Puffenbarger of Waynesboro, VA, Ruth Ann Puffenbarger of Franklin; a son, Lawrence "Grasshopper" Puffenbarger of Franklin; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, David Jarvis. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 1, 2012, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Born in Fayette County, W.Va. on March 20, 1920, he was the son of the late Lovell M. and Nova Sevy Ashley. He was employed as a property specialist in the Accounting Department at Radford Army Ammunition Plant, where he retired in 1982 with 35 years of service. Mr. Ashley was a veteran of the United States Army in which he served during World War II. For many years he was a member of the Price's Fork United Methodist Church and the Price's Fork Grange #786. Mr. Ashley was also a member of the Hunter's Masonic Lodge No. 156, A.F. & A.M., Blacksburg, the Blacksburg Royal Arch Chapter No. 65, and the Kazim Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Roanoke. During his retirement years Mr. Ashley served on the Montgomery County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Board of Equalization. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Ruth Smith Ashley; and a sister and brother-in-law, Leona A. and James Bayes. Surviving are his wife, Irene B. Ashley; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Lowell E. Ashley, Christiansburg, David R. Ashley, and Kenneth E. and Jean T. Ashley, all of Roanoke; one daughter and son-in-law, Loretta A. and James E. Foster, Pensacola, Fla; one sister and brother-in-law, Anna A. and Richard H. Stewart, Spotsylvania; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey C. Ashley, Hico, W.Va., John R. and Jean Ashley, Dorset, Ohio, and James M. and Virginia G. Ashley, Spotsylvania; two grandsons, Kenneth Gregory and Jason A. Hall and wife, Mary of Kegley; two sisters, Dorothy Wyrick of Beckley, and Della Mahone of Princeton; eight grandchildren, Thomas Wright, Wayne Wright, Rebecca Farley, Tammy Wright, Jackie Copenhaver, Leland Hedrick, Amanda Hall, and Kevin Hall; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Revs. Jerry Martin and Rick Sester officiating.
