Kenneth Abe Meador1,2,3
M, b. October 4, 1951, d. February 26, 2018
Kenneth Abe Meador Kenneth Abe Meador. A husband. A Poppi. A father. A brother. A man’s man that will be forever missed. Kenny (aka Pig) passed away Monday February 26th after a long, noble fight following complications from surgery. It comes as no surprise to those that knew him he kept his willful spirit with him throughout his entire life, including these last weeks. He was playful and generous and the greatest gift he gave us all was the gift of unconditional love. Born October 4, 1951 at home in Jumping Branch, Summers County to Odie and Doris Jean Meador, he learned young the value of hard work. He owned and managed Odie Meador Lumber Company for many years. He completed a full time career as an Engineer with CSX Railroad and retired a little over a year ago. In addition to his professional career he was a full time family man and food enthusiast rarely missing a family cook-out. He earned a million mile badge driving back and forth between WV and NC visiting his daughters and grandsons. He spent new found time in retirement working alongside Kay at the Double K Farm gardening, completing the edges of jig saw puzzles, fishing the Bluestone, watching Westerns between afternoon naps and enjoying the laughter of his grandsons. He is survived in death by his wife Marilyn Kay Meador, daughters Cami Meador (son in law: David Sitton) and Alison Steele, sister Diannia Perdue (brother in law: Stanley Perdue) and grandsons Mead (2 years) and Ward Sitton (7 months) plus his energetic schnauzers: Sparky and Groovy. He is preceded in death by his parents Odie and Doris Jean Meador, his brother Larry Meador and his daughter Mandi Ellen Meador.

William Ford Poindexter1,2,3,4,5,6,7
M, b. September 21, 1906, d. September 26, 1958
William Ford Poindexter was buried at Evergreen Burial Park, 1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, Virginia.3 He was born on September 21, 1906 at Franklin Co., Virginia.3,5 He married Nellie Mary "Nell" Bryant, daughter of William Green Bryant and Alice Mary Wimmer, on September 2, 1927 at Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,8,6 William Ford Poindexter and Nellie Mary "Nell" Bryant were divorced before April, 1950.9 William Ford Poindexter died on September 26, 1958 at Cullman, Cullman Co., Alabama, at age 52.3,4,7 He CULLMAN - An act of courtesy cost a Greyhound bus driver his life near here Friday night but a heroic effort, his last, saved a nine-year-old passenger. Killed instantly when struck by a car at 6:20 on U. S. Highway 31, two miles south of here, was William F. Poindexter, 52, Cullman. An instant before he was hit, the driver pushed Donna Jean Norton from his side and out of the path of the car. Poindexter had alighted from his bus to help the little girl cross the highway to Brownie's Drive-In where her aunt worked. When she boarded the bus at Birmingham, one of Miss Norton's parents asked the driver to let her off at the eating place. Other passengers said Poindexter told the child she was too little to cross the highway by herself and decided to help her. The pair had crossed the two northbound lanes and started across the two southbound ones. Apparently the girl saw the car, a 1957 Oldsmobile convertible driven by Wayne R. Garrison, 22, Cullman, because witnesses stated she balked as they started across the second portion of the highway but Poindexter placed his arm around her and proceeded. Seconds later he saw the car and threw the little girl to safety. He wasn't able to save himself. Highway Patrolman E. F. Dixon, who investigated, said two other persons were in the car with Garrison. The driver stated he was traveling around 55 m.p.h. Dixon said the body came to rest about 305 feet from the point of impact but there was no way to tell how far he was carried on the hood of the car. The car traveled another 600 feet but Dixon said Garrison never applied his brakes hard enough to cause the car to skid. No charges were placed against Garrison. Sgt. A. B. Little of the Highway Patrol at Decatur said the case would be turned over to the next grand jury for investigation. Dixon said it is hard to understand why Poindexter didn't see the car because there is only a slight dip in the road about 100 yards from the accident scene and it probably isn't deep enough to hid a car. Poindexter had been with Greyhound since June of 1945 and had driven free of accidents for the 13 years. At the time of his death, he was assigned to a local run which left Athens in the morning and returned from Birmingham late in the afternoon. Burial will follow in City Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Brown Poindexter; his mother, Mrs. Mennie Poindexter; four brothers, Hope, Brady, Ira and Zed Poindexter; two sisters, Mrs. Christene Lindsey and Mrs. Thelma Holland. on September 28, 1958.7
