In March 1985, he began his career in Hillsborough County Schools, FL, as a Science teacher at Greco Junior High School in Tampa. He later went on to teach technology at Turkey Creek Middle School in Plant City, FL, before joining the Technology Training team for Hillsborough County Schools where he was appointed Supervisor of Technology Training in 2007. John retired from Hillsborough County Public Schools in April of 2014. After retiring, John filled his days with traveling the world. He especially enjoyed cruising. John is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Kyle Jr. and Beverly of Huntsville, AL; his niece, Amy Ellison of Chattanooga, TN, and nephew, Kevin Ellison of Huntsville. on March 28, 2019.3

Linda was an employee of BB&T Bank for more than 30 years, and was formerly employed at Farmers Federal and One Valley Bank. She was very active in the community, serving on the Kanawha County Planning and Development Commission, the Private Industry Counsel of Kanawha County, WV, Workforce Board Region 3, The American Cancer Society, Financial Women International, Capitol Resource Agency, Inc., former board member of the WV Real Estate Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board and assisted with the establishment of Jubilee Housing for the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal. Linda's life motto was "We must give back to our Community that has been so good to us."2 Her Social Security Number was 234-80-7622.3 Her married name was Legg.1 She married Patrick Franklin Legg Jr.1,2 Linda K. She was a member of the Summers County Retired School Employees Association, member of the Miller Memorial United Methodist Church at Hinton and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Vass was a former member of the New Hope United Methodist Church at Marie, where she had served as Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. She was retired in 1962 from the Federal Reformatory for Women at Alderson where she had worked for 25 years. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Survivors include a son, Julian Vass and his wife, Jean, of Plaistow, N.H; two grandsons, Nicholas Vass of Orange Park, Fla. and Brian Vass of Nashua, N.H; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Hope United Methodist Church at Marie with Pastor Roger Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Ashley, Scott Briers, Bob Myers, Harry Yates and E.R. Schupe. on February 25, 1997.2

Belcher. Ellison, 40 years old, well known Marie resident, died of influenza this morning at 8:00 o'clock in the Chesapeake and Ohio hospital at Clifton Forge where he was taken Friday for treatment. He had been ill at home for several months prior to being removed to the hospital. Funeral arrangements were not complete today, though it was thought service would bt held at Marie Monday. The body was expected to be brought to Hinton this afternoon. Mr. Ellison formerly was employed as a carpenter on the C. & O. railway, but retired from active work last January as a result of ill health. He was born at Marie, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis A. Ellison, and was widely known in that section. Mr. Ellison was affiliated wth the Methodist church, and was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He is survived by his parents, residents of Marie; his wife, the former Miss Chrystel Woodrum; sister, Mrs. John Blaker, of Lindside; and three brothers, W. F. Ellison and B. D. Ellison, of Bellepoint, and P. J. Ellison, of Marie. on April 22, 1939.5 He died on April 22, 1939 at Clifton Forge, Alleghany Co., Virginia, at age 40.3,4,5

Belcher was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church at Marie and a member of the Modern Woodman of America. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Willie Woodrum Belcher; a brother, William P. Belcher of Charleston; and four sisters, Mrs. N. G. Light of Alderson, Mrs. Maye Vass and Mrs. Claude Mitchell, both of Forest Hill, and Mrs. Beulah Straud of Beckley. on May 25, 1960.4

He had attend the First Baptist Church in Haverhill and was a 20-year member of the Haverhill Lodge 165 B.P.O. Elks. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge in Woonsocket, R.I. Mr. Vass was an avid golfer. In addition to his wife of 23 years, he is survived by his sons, Nicholas C. Vass of Florida and Brian C. Vass of New Hampshire; and three stepgrandchildren. Funeral services at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill will be private. There will be no calling hours at the family's request. Burial will be in West Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice. on January 13, 2004.4

     Jean M. Westerman Jean M. (Westerman) (Davis) Vass, 84, passed away June 22, 2011 at Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill. Mrs. Vass was the wife of the late Allan Van Voorhees Davis and Julian Vass. Born in Lancaster, PA on March 6, 1927, Mrs. Vass was the daughter of the late Dr. James M. and Margaret C. (Benfield) Westerman. Jean graduated from The Shippen School for Girls in Lancaster, PA, and continued her education graduating from Edgewood Park Junior College in Briarcliff, NY, with a degree in interior design, and later attended classes at the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland. After moving to the Haverhill area, she taught kindergarten at the First Baptist Church in Haverhill and then as a teacher's assistant in the Haverhill School System. Jean was also the area representative for the Henri Fayette Card Company of Chicago, IL specializing in Christmas cards. Jean was a member of the Junior League of Lancaster, PA, an award winning golfer with a seven handicap at the Lancaster Country Club, and a member of the Junior Ice Capades of Hershey, PA. Jean also enjoyed tennis, skiing with her family, traveling and playing bridge with the same group of women for over fifty years. Jean is survived by her children, Julia Payson Davis Butters and her husband Jeffrey Allen Butters of Thousand Oaks, CA and Atkinson, NH, Jefferson Westerman Davis and his wife Ellen Small Davis of Bradford, MA; grandchildren, J. Westerman Davis, Jr., Egan C. Davis and Declan A. Davis; sister, Janice Westerman Johns of Sedona, AZ. In-laws, Kingsbury "King" and Suzanne Davis of Haverhill, Drs John B. and Joy Davis of White Bear Lake, MN, and Mrs. George S. Davis of Atkinson, NH, cousins, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her son Allan V.V. Davis, Jr., and was the sister of the late James H. Westerman. At her request the funeral service at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill will be private. Interment at Linwood Cemetery.2 She was buried at Linwood Cemetery, 41 John Ward Avenue, Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts.
