He attended Beulah Baptist Church in Fruitland and was a follower of Jesus Christ. He called bingo at Satsuma Fire Department for 13 years as a volunteer. His bingo participation was instrumental in raising money for an addition sign and evacuation needs and various other improvements. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, William Bennett, and 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Christine M. Bennett of Satsuma; daughter, Joyce A. Hill of Satsuma; son, Michael L. (Denise) Bennett of Aurora, Ohio; brother, Carl Bennett of Beckley, W.Va; grandchildren, Angela M. Halloran, Michael S. Bennett and Miranda Hlad; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Hill, Jaden Halloran, Nicholas Bennett, Shelley Bruce-Wayne and Serenity Peterson. C., following the death last night of Theodore R. Bolt, 21, of Lester, W. Va., also a Fort Bragg private, who was visiting Spurlock. Deputy Sheriff Otis Miracle said Bolt suffered three bullet wounds Oct. 16 when he and Spurlock quarreled in a now-padlocked tavern at Baxter. Spurlock was held on shooting and wounding charges until Deputy J. S. Cawood signed the murder warrant today. County Judge C. E. Ball said Spurlock would be arraigned for examining trial next week. Bolt was a member of Company F, stationed at Fort Bragg's reception center. He was the son Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bolt of Lester. A brother, Curtis, a Fort Bragg artillery private, also survives. on November 2, 1941.4

Vance, age 66, of Mount Hope, WV, went to his eternal home on January 14, 2016, after a courageous battle to live. Larry had a double lung transplant June 2015 but unfortunately his body could not fight off the influenza. Born May 15, 1949, on Packs Branch, WV, he was the son of the late John Robert Vance and Laverne Frances Bolt Vance. Larry attended Mount Hope High School, served in the U.S. Army in Korea and returned to West Virginia to start a career as a coal miner. Larry was a member of American Legion in Beckley. He was a Christian and an active member of Packs Branch Baptist Church. Larry's proudest possession, after his wife and granddaughters, was his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was Road Captain for his Hope Rider's Chapter of the CMA in Beckley for several years. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sister Roberta Phillips of Parsons, WV. He is survived by his brothers Dennis of Herndon, Virginia, Keith of Parsons, WV, Robert of Smithville, Ohio, and Ted of Maple Fork; and his sisters Charlotte of Morganton, NC, Shelby and Barbara, both of Mount Hope. Larry is also survived by his wife and best friend of 48 years, Kathy, his son Wayne (Angie), his daughter Kelly, his three granddaughters Alyssa, Trinity and Laicey and one great-granddaughter Aubrielle. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. on January 17, 2016.1

     Robert "Bob" Vance Robert Vance, age 76, of Smithville, died Friday, January 17, 2020, surrounded by his family, at Ohio's Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a short illness. Bob was born on August 3, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late John Robert and Laverne Francis (Bolt) Vance, attended Mt. Hope (WV) High School, and served in the United States Army, in Germany, during the Vietnam War. He married Brenda S. Morgan on November 6, 1965, in Mt. Hope, WV, and she survives. He worked as a machinist and an assembler for BWX Technologies (B & W) in Barberton for 37 years, retiring in 2005. He attended Grace Church in Wooster. Bob could fix anything. He loved finding bargains at garage sales and flea markets. He enjoyed woodworking and had a special interest in making clocks. No one ever saw him wear a hat. In addition to his wife, Brenda, he is survived by a son, Paul (Belinda) Vance of Orrville; three grandsons, Derek (fiancé Celina Petitte) Vance of Orrville, Justin Vance of Orrville, and Ryan (fiancé Cassie Schartiger) Vance of Wooster; five siblings, Dennis (Polly) Vance of Herndon, VA, Keith Vance of Parsons, WV, Charlotte (Bob - deceased) Martin of Morganton, NC, Shelby (Doug Stover) Rogers of Mt. Hope, WV, and Barbara (Ronnie) Clay of Mt. Hope, WV; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Vance of Mt. Hope, WV, and Kathy Vance of Mt. Hope, WV; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ted and Larry Vance. Burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, where military rites will be observed. The family wishes to thank the extended family, Dr. Ofori and the staff at Wooster Community Hospital, as well as Dr. Nicolozakes and the staff at LifeCare Hospice, for the love and care provided to Bob and his family during his last days.5 He was buried at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Medina Co., Ohio.7,5 He was born on August 3, 1943 at Baltimore, Maryland.7,5,6 He married Brenda Sue Morgan on November 6, 1965 at Mount Hope, Fayette Co., West Virginia.5,6 Robert "Bob" Vance died on January 17, 2020 at Wooster, Wayne Co., Ohio, at age 76.7,5

Theodore "Ted" Vance, 74, of Maple Fork Road passed peacefully at his home on Maple Fork Rd, Mt. Hope, after a long illness. He is the late son of John Robert Vance and Laverne Vance of Pax, WV. Larry Vance, brother and Roberta Phillips. Ted is survived by his wife Barbara, his two sons and daughter and their spouses. Timothy J. Vance and his wife, Marilyn Vance of Clover, SC, Thomas J. Vance and Sheri Vance of Pax Branch, WV and his daughter Toni J. Robinson and her husband William Robinson of Fayetteville, WV. His surviving brothers and sisters, Bob Vance, Shelby Rogers, Barbara Clay, Charlotte Martin as well as Keith Vance, Dennis Vance. Ted was also Pawpaw to India Vance, William "Little Bill" Robinson, Brandon Stover and Chyna Stover. He also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Amelia and Chloe Robinson. Pallbearers will be son, Timothy Vance, son, Thomas Vance, grandson, William "Little Bill" Robinson, grandson, Brandon Stover, brother, Bob Vance, and brother, Keith Vance. Services will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Ted lived an adventurous life filled with lots of interesting tales. He enjoyed challenges and was always a determined man. Known to be found on a piece of heavy equipment pushing some dirt, he is also remembered that he was an avid bowler, hunter, flying enthusiast and won many trophies in archery not to mention all of the card games and playing pool with his sons and friends. In his younger years you would find him riding a dirt bike with many friends. She was the daughter of the late John Robert Vance and Laverne Frances Vance (Bolt). Shelby was preceded in death by brothers, Robert "Bob", Theodore "Ted", Larry, and Dennis Vance; sister, Roberta Phillips (Poncho); and brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Martin. She is survived by her fiancé Douglas Stover; daughters, Tina Rogers Malloy (William) and Samantha Rogers; father of her children and friend, Joseph Rogers; grandchildren, Ciara and Liam; brother, Keith Vance; sisters, Charlotte Martin and Barbara Clay (Ronald); sisters-in-law, Brenda Vance, Barbara Vance, Kathy Vance, and Polly Vance; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Shelby was known for her selfless and giving personality, constantly helping all those in need. She adored her grandchildren, they were her pride and joy. She was an awesome decorator, always having a project going. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home Sophia with Pastor Sam Peterson officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Blevins, Kenneth Wix, John Harvey Cox, Jason Byrge, James Byrge Jr. and Jerry Wall. Mary was born September 6, 1954 in Beckley, WV; she was the daughter of the late Junior Milam, and Pearl Milam of Sophia, WV. Mary was married 40 years to the late Patton Hylton. She leaves behind two loving daughters and their families. Patricia Fraley of Crab Orchard and her husband, James Fraley, and granddaughter, Elisha Fraley; also Angie Harrah of Beckley, her husband, Matt Harrah, and granddaughter, Abigail Harrah; six late siblings, and 2 still living, Brenda Wix of Hopewell, Virginia and Jimmy Milam of Hopewell, Virginia; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. Mary was definitely the type to give you the shirt off of her back and then some. She always loved it when she could be of some help to someone. Mary had a huge child-like spirit. She loved so many things. She loved candies of all kinds, especially buttered popcorn taffy, she loved Gone With The Wind, collecting dolls, pretty figurines. She loved all kinds of pretty things, including taking care of her rose garden. She loved traveling. Especially to Tennessee, and going on cruises. She loved her two girls, her granddaughters, and her sons- in-law very much. But most of all she loved her husband Pat. Married at the young age of seventeen. They were the love of each other's life. Pats passing left a huge hole in Mary's heart. She now resides with the good Lord and her loving husband.
