Mr. Hurst had been a resident of Route 3, Bluefield for 69 years and was a retired coal operator having worked in the coal industry for 34 years. He was a member of the U.M.W.A., a graduate of Bramwell High School Class of 1948 and was a member of the Bailey Masonic Lodge No. 137 A.F.& A.M. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Mateer Hurst and a great-nephew, Joshua Keith Hurst. Survivors include: Brother, Charles Edward Hurst and wife Linda of Bluewell; sister-in-law, Yvonne Legg Hurst of Lorton Lick Road, Bluefield; nieces and nephews, Sandra Lynn Vaught and husband Joey of Harker Heights ,Texas, Charles Edward Hurst Jr. of Brushfork, Larry Keith Hurst and wife Linda of Sandlick, Lani Karen Crane and husband Kevin of Bluewell; great-nieces and nephews, Sarah Michelle Vaught of Harker Heights, Nicholas Ryan Hurst of Brushfork, Amanda Marie Hurst of Sandlick, Kellie Yvonne Crane and Maranda LeAnn Crane of Bluewell. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell where the Eulogy will be given by Larry Hurst and Kevin Compton. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Bluewell where Delbert Gills, Chester Workman, Herman Munsey, Franklin Sargent, Curtis King, Jeff Donithan, Blaine Farmer and Chester Workman Jr. will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6-9 p.m. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Hurst family. on December 9, 2004.1

Born on March 6, 1936 in Dott, WV, he was a son of the late Chester Edward and Ada May Mateer Hurst. He had been a member of the Bluewell community for 78 years and was a retired salesman for Bluefield Hardware Company for 28 years. He also owned and ran Hardware Charlie's in Bluewell for 31 years. He was a member of the Bluewell Lions Club, and the masons and shriners as well. He was a graduate of Bramwell High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Gail Sparks Hurst; 2 brothers, CM and Robert Lee Hurst; and a nephew, Larry Keith Hurst. Survivors include: Son: Charles Edward Hurst, Jr. of Bluefield. Daughter: Sandra Lynn Hurst Vaught of Harker Heights, TX. He also loved an adored every minute with his grandchildren: Sarah Michelle Vaught of Austin, TX; and Nicholas Ryan Hurst of Roanoke, VA. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Roger Lacy officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Because of Charles' love for children, it is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. on January 26, 2015.2

Yvonne was born June 26, 1931 in Belburn, to the late Jack and Bessie (Hill) Legg. She was "raised" by John W. and Leona (Hill) Sigmon. She attended Montcalm High School and graduated from Bramwell High School in 1949. She worked at Maidenform in Princeton and Hills Department Store in Green Valley. Yvonne lived the majority of her life on Lorton Lick Road in Mercer County. She was a dear friend and caregiver to many people during her lifetime. She particularly loved children and freely opened her home to many kids throughout the years. Yvonne will be remembered for her delicious home-cooking and her strong sense of humor. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Chester "C.M." Hurst; her son, Larry Keith Hurst; and her infant grandson, Joshua Keith Hurst. Also preceding her in death were her Sigmon family cousins (Harry Sigmon, Mildred Walker, Virginia Gills, Lucille Mathena, Thelma Sigmon, Julius Sigmon, Woodrow Sigmon, and Ray Sigmon) with whom she grew up alongside of as a sister. Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Lani Karen Hurst Crane and husband, Kevin of Bluewell; four grandchildren, Amanda Maria Hurst, Kellie Yvonne Crane, Maranda LeAnn Crane, and Landon Kevin Crane; as well as her daughter-in-law, Linda K. Hurst of Sandlick. Additional survivors include her brother, William B. Legg and wife, Grace of Meadow Bridge, and her brother, Earl Jackson "Jackie" Legg and wife, Helen of Mount Lookout; half-sisters, Bonnie Groves and Anna McClung of Maryland. In addition, there are many close friends, neighbors, and relatives who called to check on Yvonne on a daily basis. Special family friends include Jerry and Judy Kade and Mia Kade Compton, as well as a special caregiver, Melissa Brooks. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Rev. Steve Rector officiating. She retired from Consolidation Coal Company after 45 years of service as a salary payroll clerk. Janice loved to play the Virginia Lottery and to shop at CVS, Farm Bureau, Double Kwik, Cargo, Food Lion and the Cave. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Frank L. "Bull" Lowman and two sisters, Evelyn Smallwood and Margaret Ann Boothe. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include three nephews, Frankie Lowman and wife Linda of Tazewell, Va., Charles Smallwood and wife Kathy of Louisville, Ky., and Clyde "Buzzy" Boothe and wife Becky of Charlotte, N.C; five nieces, Erra Jo Lowman Sutherland and husband Bill of Wise, Va., Phyllis Craig and husband Jerry of Morgantown, Audrey Aunspaugh and husband Richard of Sebring, Fla., Betty White and husband Junior of Matthews, N.C., and Judy Gunter and husband Ronnie of Jesse; fifteen great nieces and nephews, several great-great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers, and family members will officiate the service. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell by 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2006. on April 25, 2006.1
