     Diane Sue Fox Diane Sue Mathews, 73, of Gatewood, went to be with Jesus on March 18, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. Born Nov. 21, 1944, in Gatewood, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Claude and Hilda Oralee (Nutter) Fox. She also was preceded in death by a brother, John J. Fox of Gatewood. She was a 1962 graduate of Fayetteville High School. Those left to cherish her memory are a loving husband of 44 years, William R. “Satch” Mathews; a son, JL Rhoades of Belington; daughters, Lesley Peck and husband Robby of Shady Spring and Tori Lester and husband Scott of Crab Orchard; stepdaughter, Ronnie Sue Cogar and husband Robert of Fairmont; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was also survived by two sisters, Betty Surface of Sheffield Lake, Ohio and Janet Bates and husband Fred of Hopewell, Va. Diane had many accomplishments in life but the ones she cherished most was being a wife, mother, and nana. She was the heart of her family and will be dearly missed. Since his retirement he had been employed as superintendent of Mountain View Cemetery and was serving in that capacity at the time of his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Gladys Stone, and the following children: Allen R. of Fairfax, Mrs. Albert Sink of Covington; Mrs. Reginald Reid of Clifton Forge; Richard C. of Arlington; Mrs. Robert Childress of Lynchburg; and Leroy at home; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Overstreet of Gladstone; Mrs. Myrtle Scruggs of California; Arthur Williams of Fairview Heights; Malcolm Williams of Seaford; Paul Williams of Lynchburg; and Mrs. Dorothy Hummelstein of California. on October 19, 1951.5

Born September 11, 1942, in Lochgelly, WV to Herbert Ronald and Jennie (Scott) Mathews. William, affectionately known to others as Satch, attended Oak Hill High School. He joined the United States Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. In addition to his parents Satch is preceded in death by his wife Diane Sue Mathews; sister Barbara Nichols of Oak Hill, WV and great-granddaughter Aubree Rhoades of Fairmont, WV. Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters Ronnie Sue Cogar (Bob) of Fairmont, WV, Lesley Peck (Robby) of Shady Spring, WV and Tori Lester (Scott) of Crab Orchard, WV; son JL Rhoades (Barbara Weaver) of Belington, WV; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Harding of Oak Hill, WV; brother Jimmie Mathews (Lil) of Oak Hill, WV and brother-in-law Don Nichols of Oak Hill, WV. Satch also leaves behind a few special people who helped him throughout his last few years, Chuck and Meredith Feazell of Gatewood, WV and the Fox family of Gatewood, WV. Satch had many accomplishments in life but the one he treasured most was being a husband, father, and paw. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Oak Hill Place where Satch was a resident the last months of his life. He enjoyed his time there and the staff became more like family than caregivers. A special thank you to Coretta and Brittany who always put a smile on his face.
