Cannaday, died at her home near town Saturday morning, February 18, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband and eleven children. Arthur, Levi, Isaac, Callahill, Fitzhugh, Giles, Mrs. Etta Smith, Mrs. Elizabeth Roop, Floyd, Mrs. Laura Agee, Starkey, Mrs. Florence Cole, Forest Va, Mrs. Julia Blair, Danville, and forty grandchildren. She was a sister of T. H. and V. S. Cannaday, near town, and I. Cannaday, of Kansas. Mrs. Epperly was a fine lady, an excellent neighbor, and a godly mother. She was a member of the Primative Baptist church for a number of years, and a consistent christian lady. She will be missed by her church, her children, but most by her aged husband, who stood nobly by her side and so faithfully administered to her wants until the last breath left her. The funeral services were conducted at her home by her pastor, The Rev. James M. Dickerson. Internment being in the family burial ground, near East View. on February 23, 1928.4

Jo was in the loving presence of her devoted children at her home under the competent and kind care of the Carilion Hospice Team. She was also blessed with amazing caregivers, Mary, Susan, Kiki and Kristy, that cared for her with love and the utmost respect. Born in Boones Mill, Va., in 1931, Jo was one of seven children of the late Grover and Retha Boone Manning. She was raised in Boones Mill and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. A resident of Vinton for 51 years, Jo raised her family with love and great dedication with her husband of 37 years, Norris Edward Poff, who passed on April 22, 1987. She loved being a mother and grandmother and embraced all the challenges that went with it. Jo possessed a sweet and kind personality and true passion for her family, which endeared her to everyone she met. She enjoyed and was dedicated to working as a bookkeeper for R.L. Finch Sheet Metal for 33 years. Jo loved gathering with her family for cookouts in her backyard and holiday meals in her kitchen. Having breakfast out with her brothers and sisters on a regular basis was a highlight for her. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and trips to the beach with her children and siblings. Her life's legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who were a part of her life, especially her children, Jerry Kirk and husband, Eddie, of Cloverdale, Va., Ed Poff and wife, Sherry, of Avon, Conn., Molly Wood and husband, Mike, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Cindy Hall and husband, Joey, of Vinton, Va. Her grandchildren were her heart and joy to whom she was known as Grama Jo or Jo Jo include, Heather Wood, Heidi Padgett, Brian Wood and wife, Jessica, Eddie Poff Jr. and wife, Hilary, Jonathan Kirk and wife, Helen, Stephen Wood, Caitlin Hall, Carlye Poff, Aaron Hall, Kayla Poff and Hannah Poff; stepgrandchildren, Karen Kirk and Evan Kirk; and great-grandchildren, Zakk Wood and Gabriel Burrell. Jo is also survived by two brothers, Alvin Manning, and David Manning and wife, Betty; six sisters-in-law, Betty Simmons, Margaret Hofawger, Everlene Altice, Marlene Moore, Carolyn Blackwell and husband, Robert, Barbara Bradford and husband, Roger; and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Norris, and parents, loved ones who welcomed her home to Heaven were brothers, Arnold Manning and Carlton Manning; sisters, Becky Feulner and Maxine Lee; brothers-in-law, Mintaus Reinis, Jim Lee, Billy Altice, Ronnie Turner, Eugene Moore, James Connor, Sam Hofawger and Billy Walters; and sisters-in-law, Helen Manning, Mary Manning and Peggy Walters. on September 6, 2017.4
