Jess J. Hunsaker was buried at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Wellington, Collingsworth Co., Texas.4 His Social Security Number was 456-42-7028.6 He was born on September 20, 1875 at McKinney, Collin Co., Texas.2,6,5 He married Lillie Donnell, daughter of Jacob T. Donnell and Margaret Virginia "Maggie" Poff, on August 16, 1899 at Clay Co., Texas.1,3,7,4,5 Jess J. Hunsaker died on November 21, 1966 at Collingsworth Co., Texas, at age 91.8,5 He Jess Hunsaker, 91, a farmer and farm leader in this area many years, died in the St. Joseph's Hospital at 3:30 p.m. November 21. His health had grown more frail in recent years. He came to this area 58 years ago and most of his active life was spent farming in the Loco community. After he retired, however, he moved to Wellington and operated a grocery store before he retired altogether. Born September 20, 1875 at McKinney, Mr. Hunsaker was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Elleanor Rowland Hunsaker. When he was a small boy, the family moved to Clay County, where he lived until 1907 when he came here. He attended the public schools in McKinney and Bowie. Mr. Hunsaker was married to Miss Lillie Donnell on August 12, 1899 in Clay County. She preceded him in death February 1, 1958. Often Mr. Hunsaker recalled that when he moved to West Texas there was no railroad into Wellington and only one bank, a few stores and wagon yard. The family came by rail to Childress, then moved on in the Loco community where he bought land. He often told his children how he carried grain by team and wagon to market in Childress and bought supplies for several months in advance. This was a two day trip. He traveled over pasture land, opening gates between ranches, to get to Wellington, 8 miles from his farm. Mr. Hunsaker was active in his community and in establishing those institutions - the school, church, and others - that improved it for those who lived there. In later years he actively participated in soil conservation programs, for which he received recognition. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and during the early 1930's he was a director and secretary of the Farmers Co-op Gin. Mr. Hunsaker is survived by two sons and a daughter: Jesse Clarence Hunsaker of Lubbock; Ernest Leon Hunsaker of Durango, Colorado; and Mrs. Viola Jeffers of San Antonio. There are three grandchildren, Mrs. Jack Covey of Torrance, California; Barbara Jeffers of San Antonio, and Ernest Hunsaker, Jr. of Durango, Colorado. Six great-grandchildren also survive. on November 24, 1966.5
