He was born on August 1, 1951, in Fluvanna County, a son of Margaret Mayberry Hughes and the late Joseph Cunningham Hughes. A graduate of Fluvanna County High School and Ferrum College, Joe was employed by CSX Railroad for 44 years as a welder before his retirement earlier this year. He coached Little League Baseball in Scottsville for 4 years. He enjoyed sports himself and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who especially enjoyed surf fishing on Hatteras Island with family and friends. He loved participating in activities with his family and was a very active member and participant of Scottsville United Methodist Church. His family was his greatest treasure and biggest accomplishment in his life. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Linda Jones Hughes; his mother, Margaret "Marguerite" Hughes; two children: his daughter, Candice Clark and husband, Ron, and his son, Benjamin Hughes and wife, Allison; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Peyton, and Dylan Clark and Graham, Evelyn, Molly, and Miller Hughes; an aunt, Irene Hughes; father-in-law, Herbert "Hut" Jones; brothers-in-law, William and Phil Jones; special niece, Wanda Branch; other nieces and nephews in the Jones family; and many special friends from several parts of his life. Cousins; stepfather, Willie Cousins; sister, Louise Cousins; brother, Bobby Cousins; daughter, Malvern Cash; three sons-in-law, Thomas Cash, Frank Rutledge, and Buddy Adams, one grandson, and one great-grandson. She is survived by three daughters, Doris Rutledge, Kathy Staton (Bernard), and Evelyn Hudson (Preston), all of Amherst; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren, two step-great-granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.      Preston Arnold Hudson Preston Arnold Hudson, 84, of Amherst County, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at his residence. He was the loving and devoted husband of Evelyn Bryant Hudson for 63 years. Born on September 26, 1935, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late David S. and Annie Davis Hudson and was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Hudson Jr. and Malcolm Hudson and one sister, Doris H. Mays. Preston was a retired machinist with B&W and was a member of Coolwell Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, Preston is survived by his daughters, Patsy H. Parrish and husband, Kelly, of Madison Heights, and Linda H. Pugh of Amherst; two sisters, Margaret H. Tweedy of Rustburg, and Ruby H. Cash of Amherst; four grandchildren, Megan Davis and husband, J.D., Jessica Sprouse and husband, Matt, Thomas Blount, and Samantha Doss and husband, Justin; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Peyton, Brayden, Harley, Parker, Aria, and Kyzer.
