Survivors include two daughters, Cora Cooper and her husband, Lonnie, of Victor and Mary Crist and her husband, David, of Lookout; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Holbrook of Shelby, Ohio; two stepdaughters-in-law, Helen Legg of Shelby and Bessie Legg of Mansfield, Ohio; two sons, Mike Cole and his wife, Carol, of Tiro, Ohio, and Roger Legg and his wife, Annette, of Amherst, N.Y; three sisters, Lena Cole of Oak Hill, Edith Niday of Ansted and Nina Carney of Columbia, S.C; a brother, Billy Cole of Beckley; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with the Rev. Hayward Lough officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor. Friends may call 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Wallace and Wallace, Ansted. on December 29, 2001.3

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cole Legg; a brother, Callie V. of Victor; a sister, Mrs. Cora B. Legg of Victor; four sons, Bobby G. of Mansfield, Ohio, Roger D. of Victor and James L. and Michael L., both of Shelby, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn F. Parrish of Shelby and Miss Cora L. Legg and Miss Mary Legg. both of Victor and 14 grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the Hopewell Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Guy Vaughan and Rev. J. W. Romine in charge. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens at Victor. The body will remain at Thomas Funeral Home in Ansted where friends may call after 4 p.m. today. It will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. on March 13, 1967.2

Cole died on January 14, 2014 at Akron, Summit Co., Ohio, at age 78.3 He STERLING - John F. Cole, 78, of Sterling, husband of 57 years to Barbara (Coy) Cole, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Akron City Hospital on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. He was born June 30, 1935 in Leander, W. Va. to Frank and Irene (Crist) Cole and lived most of his life in Sterling. John was a union carpenter and farmer for over 40 years and also served in the Ohio National Guard. Surviving in addition to his wife, Barb, are his mother, Irene Franks of St. Petersburg, Fla; a brother, Paul (Ethel) Galloway of St. Petersburg, Fla; his children, Pam Booth of Millersburg, John (Lisa) Cole of Seville, Yvonne (Mark) Shaffer of Chippewa Lake and Bradd (Jennifer) Cole of Wadsworth; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Carol; grandson, Jeremy; and faithful dog, Sox. John was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local #639 and attended Canaan Free Will Baptist Church in Creston. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, farming his land and raising crops and livestock, Farmall tractors, attending weekly auctions at Creston, Kidron and Mt. Hope and reading. John was quiet, soft-spoken, gentle and kind to everyone. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him. Service will be held Friday, January 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, with Rev. James R. McComas officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron. on January 15, 2014.3
