She enjoyed needlepoint; she was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, a member of Waverly Loyal Seniors, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Waverly United Methodist Church where she had 43 years perfect attendance in Sunday school. Surviving is her brother Don W. Rakes (fiancé Luella Marr) of Waverly, and a sister Virginia Michael of Maryland, and her caregiver for 14 years Sara Fisher of Waverly. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday December 9, 2010 at the Waverly United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday at the church from 9 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Waverly East Cemetery. on December 8, 2010.³

Mrs. Rakes was a member of New Haven Baptist Church in Floyd, Va. Survivors: a daughter, Betty Jo Prill of Auburn; two sons, Marvin (wife, Joan) Rakes of Chatham and Grover Rakes of Waverly; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Buster was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Springfield. He was a farmer in the Chatham area. Served on the Board of Lick Elevator and was a member of Sangamon County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife, Joan; one son, Allan (Joan) Rakes of Chatham; two grandchildren, Natosha and Joshua; two great-grandchildren. Olivia Drabing and Koltyn Rakes; one sister, Betty Prill of Virden; one brother, Grover Rakes of Waverly; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3 till 5 pm, Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn. Services will be held at 10 am on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Richard Ahlgrim officiating.
