Charles Edward Sampson CLARION, MARCH 3, - Charles E. Sampson, 62, of Tionesta, R. D., died en route to the Oil City hospital shortly after midnight Tuesday morning (Mar. 3) from injuries received when he was struck by a truck operated by Robert E. Marshall, 20, of Tylersburg, Clarion county, the accident occurring about a quarter mile north of Tylersburg on the Leeper Road. The accident occurred about 11:15 p.m. according to the information given the state motor police at Clarion. The victim is said to have suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries. His body was badly mangled by the impact with the truck. Dr. W. H. Wellman, of St. Petersburg, Clarion county coroner said after receiving the report of the attending physician, that no inquest will be held, and that a certificate of accidental death will be issued.1 His Social Security Number was 206-09-4979.4 He was buried at Riverside Cemetery, Tionesta, Forest Co., Pennsylvania.1 He was born on April 3, 1876 at Clarion Co., Pennsylvania; His death certificate has a birth year of 1879.1,3 He died on March 3, 1942 at Fryburg, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania, at age 65.1,4

Mr. Hulings had been ill for about a week with a cold but pneumonia set in and caused his death. Mr. Hulings was married to Mary Hulings, of Tylersburg, who preceded him in death a number of years ago. He is survived by two sons, Roy, of Vowinckle, and Arthur, of Union City; also the following brothers and sisters: Elet, of Mayburg; Seth, of Kane and Walter, of Sheffield; also Mrs. Wm. and Sol Zerby, of Lucinda; Mrs. Sheldon, of Bradford and Mrs. John Martin, of Summerville, and nine grandchildren. Mr. Hulings was born at Lucinda and grew to manhood at that place. He was one of the pioneer raftsmen who could tell the trips he made down the Clarion river to Pittsburgh having followed the lumber woods along the Clarion river and in West Virginia. He was an experienced log rafter. The Bowman Lumber Company while operating in Forest Co. employed him as a jobber to cut the logs, with which company he remained for thirteen years. On completion of the job he purchased a farm near Vowinckle on which he resided until his death. Chat, as he was known and called by all, was a good neighbor and liked by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed in the community. His body was laid to rest beside his wife in the family burial ground at Lucinda to await the great Bugle call. on January 5, 1928.3
