Devling and a brother, Clyde E. Devling, both of Lock Haven; and two sisters, Miss Martha Devling, member of the supervisory staff at the Williamsport Hospital, and Mrs. Kathryn Grady of Montgomery. Following the fracture of his leg early New Year's morning, while he and Mrs. Devling and some other friends were in a Renovo restaurant, Sergeant Devling had been confined to his home here. The fracture apparently was innproving satisfactorily until flebitus and other complications developed a week or ten days ago when he was returned to the hospital. There had been no indications of a grave turn in his condition until about noon today when he told his wife, who was with him, that he was suffering a pain about his heart. His death followed almost at once. Mrs. Devling, the former Miss Elva Pennington, this city, was in a state of collapse this afternoon from the shock of his death. No definite plans have been made for funeral services, but members of the family thought the funeral probably would be held Monday afternoon. Devling was made a temporary member on the police force May 2, 1928, the day Chief Martin J. Peters was shot and seriously wounded by Gurney Paul in Mary's Alley, just west of Grove St. Chief Peters was off duty for five weeks, during which Bill substituted for him. When Peters returned to work, Devling was made a permanent officer of the force. Devling was a veteran of the World War. He was affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police of Pennsylvania, the Citizens Hose Company and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. on February 20, 1942.1 He died on February 20, 1942 at Lock Haven, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania, at age 44.1,2

Fairview Streets, Lock Haven, Clinton Co., Pennsylvania.4,5 He was born on June 21, 1858 at Connecticut.4 He married Minnie Eudora Batcheler, daughter of George W. Batcheler and Mary Jane Devling, on March 11, 1888 at Clinton Co., Pennsylvania.1,4,5,6,2,3 Rembrandt R./W. Peale died on November 12, 1934 at Manhattan, New York Co., New York, at age 76.4,5 He Rembrandt Peale, 76, widely known coal operator, industrialist and financier, with large mining and banking interests in Clearfield and Cambria counties, died early Monday morning, at his Park Avenue Apartment, New York, after a brief illness. He had suffered with a heart condition but Sunday appeared to be in his usual health. Mr. Peale was very well known in the Grassflat and Glen Richey regions of Clearfield County, at both of which places he once operated tremendous mining plants. He was a director of the old County National Bank and many other financial interests in Clearfield County. He was the son of the late Senator and Mrs. S. R. Peale of Lock Haven and was born and reared at Lock Haven, attending the training school and later the Central State Normal School, now the Lock Haven State Teachers College, he also attended Chambersburg Academy and after his graduation in 1883 from Lehigh University he studied law at the University of Pennsylvania. Coal lands had been discovered and developed in Clearfield County by the late Senator Peale and after, the entrance of the Beech Creek branch of the New York Central Railroad into Centre and Clearfield Counties, leading to the development of the coal lands there, Mr. Peale entered the coal business. He greatly enlarged the Peale holdings, acquiring coal lands in Cambria and Indiana Counties and developing Rembrandt Peale & Co., a large organization of which he was a former president. He was president of Pea, Peacock and Kerr, Inc., miners and shippers of coal and was an official of about a dozen other concerns engaged actively in mining or allied industiries. For many years his companies have been the largest shippers over the New York Central lines of coal mined in the Clearfield district. During the Wilson administration and the World War he served the government as an adviser to the Fuel Administraton and in 1919 was a member of a comission appointed by the President to investigate working conditions of bituminous miners. For a time he was located at Philadelphia but for many years he reside chiefly in New York. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Survivors are his wife and three sons, John, Richard and Rembrandt, Jr., New York, a brother Franklin D., New York and three sisters, Mrs. Frank B. Towne, Holyoke, Mass., and Martha S. and Elizabeth H., of Lock Haven. Mr. Peale's wife, the former Minnie Eudora Batcheler of Lock Haven was with him when he died in their apartment at 510 Park Avenue, where they had gone two weeks ago from their Cambria County home at St. Benedict. Their sons, Richard of Clearfield, John of St. Benedict and Rembrandt of New York have been associated with their father in his coal enterprises. Mr. Peale was a member of the Metropolitan and University Clubs of New York. He was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lock Haven, where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Francis D. Daley. Burila will be made in the family plot at Highland Cemetery. The body, accompanied by Mrs. Peale's family will arrive at Lock Haven tomorrow evening. on November 13, 1934.5
