Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue. Pastor Eddie Hawks will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on June 7, 2012.3

James had a great sense of humor and was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. James worked as a coal miner and was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters, Cathy Arlene Vest, Patty Buchcannon, and Shirley Ann Graham. Those left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, April Castillo and Jamie Gwinn; two brothers, Harry Vest and Dale Vest; three sisters, Carol Workman, Linda Lewis, and Robin Blevins; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.3 He was born on March 4, 1957 at East Gulf, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.3 He died on February 28, 2019 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 61.3

A roofer, Mr. Burke had been employed by Pittsfield Roofing Co. for more than 10 years, retiring several years ago because of ill health. He leaves his companion of 27 years, Ms. Joan A. Massey of Pittsfield; three sons, William J. Burke of East Hartford, Conn., and twins William and Joseph Massey, both of Pittsfield; two brothers, Louis and Almon Burke, both of Pittsfield; two children he helped raise, Mrs. Beverly McNeil and Mrs. Pamela J. Suites, both of Pittsfield; 16 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Another son, A Dennis Burke of Pittsfield, died June 1, 1989.
