     Willis Broadus Taylor Sr. Asheville - Willis Broadus Taylor, Sr., 93, of Asheville, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Laurels of Green Tree Ridge. A native and resident of most of his life of Buncombe County, Mr. Taylor retired in 1985 from the Black Mountain Center following 23 ½ years of service. He was a former member of Biltmore Church of God, and was an active member of the Open Door Cathedral. Mr. Taylor was proud of the fact that he was able to obtain his G.E.D. at age 50. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in World War II. Mr. Taylor was a hard working, caring man who reached out to lend a hand to anyone in need, never asking for anything in return. He was an avid model railroader, building over 10 different layouts in all, and loved to play bar dice with his son, Sam. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Taylor was the son of the late James Lee “Jim” Taylor and Celia Rhymer Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Lillian Todd Taylor, who passed away August 28, 2014; son, Samuel “Sam” Taylor; grandson, Tim Taylor; brothers: Herbert, Sidney, Oscar, and Clinton Taylor; and sister, Hilda Bartlett. Surviving are his children: Patricia “Pat” Earwood and husband Jim and Carolyn Moore, all of Arden, and Broadus “Buddy” Taylor, Jr. and wife Mary of Asheville; grandchildren: Lisa Earwood Sherlin and husband Wayne, Jeffrey Earwood and wife Laura, Jennifer Earwood Morrow and husband Charles, Darren Moore and wife Amy, Tracie Moore Helton, Joseph Taylor, Leigh Anne Taylor Bishop and husband Mark, and Christopher Taylor; 18 great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Powers and Rev. Charles Coxie officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 PM Friday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Pat and Jim Earwood. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty two years, Lola Carolyn Todd Powers; two brothers, Harry and Charles Powers, three sisters, Gladys Jones, Fay Bryan and Frances Andrews; and a great-granddaughter, Lacie Messer. He is survived by three sons, John A. Powers and wife Peggy of Asheville, Thomas V. Powers, Jr. of Lincolnton, NC, and Michael C. Powers and wife Charlene of Mauldin, SC; two daughters, Elizabeth Garnell Robinson and husband Bruce of Mars Hill, NC, and Pamela D. Powers of Asheville; honorary son and daughters, Junior and Nancy Stevens of Asheville, Barbara Hilton of Hickory, NC, and Sharon Jordan Powers of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he had resided in Swannanoa for the past 14 years. He was a son of the late Harold Benjamin and Lucy Todd Cole and was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Andrew Cole. Surviving are his wife, Yvonne Jenkins Cole; two sons, Marty Cole and wife Pam of Swannanoa and Randy Cole and wife Jamie of Asheville; a daughter, Gwen Early and husband Lou of Asheville; three brothers, Eugene Cole of Charlotte, Richard Cole of Asheville and Bruce Cole of Tuxedo; four sisters, Blanch Woodard of Asheville, Katie Jacquot of Leicester, Alene Ingram of Candler and Joyce Miller of Asheville; seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Swannanoa Chapel of Penland & Sons Funeral Home. Mr. Jake Tennant will officiate. on December 3, 2000.4
