HUNTINGTON A 28 year-old Boone County man remained in critical condition at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington today of injuries received yesterday in an airplane crash that killed a Cabell County man, state police said. Officers said attendants at St. Mary's reported W. Douglas Hager, 28, of Peytona, is under intensive care with multiple injuries. The light plane came down in a field along the Mud River northwest of Hamlin. Hager was the pilot of the plane, state police said. The Rev. James L. Cooper, 40, of Milton was dead on arrival at St. Mary's shortly after the p.m. crash. Troopers said the plane was owned by Cooper and was based at Hamlin Airport. The cause of the crash is undetermined. Police said Hager had been giving Cooper a flying lesson. The victim had been a pastor at the Springdale Free Will Baptist Church but at the time of his death was in the home building business. He lived in Malcolm Springs, a subdivision off l-64 near Milton. The victim is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Jean Wyant Cooper; sons, Dennis Lee Cooper at home and Richard Eugene Cooper, Washington, D.C.: daughter, Teressa Lynn Cooper, Washington, D.C; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cooper, Coal City in Raleigh County; brothers, Carl of Milton and William Ezra Cooper of Hurricane; sister, Mrs. Lorene Rooper, Barboursville. Friends may call at the Chapman Funeral Home at Teays Valley after 3 p.m. Wednesday. on November 9, 1970.2

     Nelma Young MRS. NELMA YOUNG COOPER, age 80, daughter of the late Edward and Gladys Young of Fayetteville, WV, and long time resident of Milton, made her entrance into the celestial city of Heaven on March 16, 2013. She was once employed by the former Pocahontas Coal Company and the Cabell County School System, but spent the majority of her life investing her time, energy, and talents nurturing her children whom she loved dearly. She most recently attended Corinth Free Will Baptist Church in Alma, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Pastor Carl J. Cooper; a brother, Richard Young also of Fayetteville. She is survived by two brothers, Bobby Young (Carol) of Beckley, WV and Kenny Young (Lisa) of Oak Hill, WV; a sister, Kathleen "Josie" Johnson of Fayetteville, WV; sons, Wesley Cooper (Debbie) of Jefferson City, TN, Pastor Dan Cooper (Sandie) of Greeneville, TN; daughter, Julie McCoy (Dale) of Alma, GA; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A memorial service honoring her life at Wallace Funeral Home of Milton with Pastors Chris McAviney and Dale McCoy officiating.
