Stephen Wayne "Steve" Deel1,2,3

M, b. September 16, 1960, d. November 25, 2020
Stephen Wayne "Steve" Deel Stephen Wayne Deel, 60, of Roanoke passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 when he went to meet his mother-in-law, Betty Sue, who escorted him through those “pearly gates” where he can be forever at peace to be without suffering and forever free. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Kent and Rachel Sink Deel and mother-in-law Betty-Sue Varndell; and his beloved dogs, Jackie and Boo. He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Wanda Sue Scott Deel; father-in-law, Richard Varndell; brother-in-law, David Simmons, and wife, Jamie; sisters-in-law, Terrie Cooper and husband, Butch, Janet Scott widowed from husband, Randy, and Donna Bullock and husband, George; his loving pet dogs, Mickey, Ringo, and Kara; numerous nieces and nephews with their families and children; best friends, Patty Sue and Dale Lohr, Julie Newcomb and husband, Scott, Mike Webb, Scott Effeckman, and Jay Alexander. Stephen was a “nice guy” and a caring gentleman. He loved sports of all kinds, was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and played sports for Northside High during school there. He played golf and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to joke around and make people laugh: one year he pranked Patty-Sue on her birthday. He presented her with a cake which had a male shape and had her take the first bite; as if not embarrassed enough at the display of the cake, upon biting into it she chomped down onto a squeaky toy (also in the same indecent shape as the cake). It was a hoot; everyone will always remember the great times they had with him. Stephen was part Cherokee and German, and especially loved learning about Native American Heritage. He knew how to make people feel good and was generous of spirit. He loved his family and friends and once told his mother-in-law, Betty Sue, that he had married Wanda just to get close to her. He will be missed by all those who loved him and those he loved. There will be no services during this time due to COVID restrictions. A celebration of life cook-out is planned for the future, check for updates.3 He was born on September 16, 1960 at Virginia.2 He married Wanda Sue Scott, daughter of Paul Dalton Scott and Betty Sue Fayne, on September 22, 1978.2,3 Stephen Wayne "Steve" Deel died on November 25, 2020 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 60.3
