A. "Joe" Vaden, 69, died at his home, 57 Garland St., this morning at 4:30 o'clock. Although he had been in declining health for the past four years, his death was unexpected. Mr. Vaden was born at Keeling, Jan. 13, 1892, a son of the late Henry Vaden and Mrs. Mary Bett Newby Vaden. He had made his home in Danville since 1905 and had been employed in the Dan River Mills since he was 12 years old. At the time of his retirment he was a maintenance man in the spinning room of the Dan River Division. He was married to the former Miss Mattie Beulah Ingram on October 30, 1922. Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters: Miss Lillian Vaden and Mrs. Mary Goodman, both of Danville, Mrs. Nannie Cahill of Martinsville, and Mrs. Dorothy Oglesby of Newport News; and two sons; Herman Vaden and Eddie Vaden, both of Danville. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Kite of Danville; two brothers, Dorsey Vaden and William Hester Vaden, both of Danville, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Swicegood Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Carey R. Moser. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The body is resting at the funeral home, and the family will be at the Garland St. residence. on February 4, 1961.4 He died on February 4, 1961 at Danville, Virginia, at age 69.1,3,4

     Herman Lee Vaden was buried at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Virginia.3,8 He Herman Lee Vaden, age 88, of 827 Hughes Street, Danville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born September 2, 1923 in Franklin County, VA, he was the son of the late Grover Vaden and Mattie Ingram Vaden. He lived most of his life in Danville and was the owner/operator of State Electronics, Inc. Mr. Vaden was a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II. He landed on Utah Beach and was assigned to the 328th Infantry Regiment as a Master Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Vaden was a devoted member of Schoolfield Baptist Church. Survivors include one son: Danny Vaden and his wife Vickie of Providence, NC; one daughter: Pat Thomas and her husband Joe of Danville; one brother: Eddie Vaden and his wife Sylvia of Nashville, Tennessee; three sisters: Lillian Vaden, Mary Goodman and her husband Squeeky, and Nan Vaden Cahill Davidson, all of Danville; three grandchildren: Greg Thomas, Julie Reamey, and Chris Vaden; five great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law: Vince Oglesby. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Oglesby. Funeral services officiated by the Rev. David Turbyfill will be held Saturday, June 2,2012 at 2 p.m. in the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment, with military honors by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard, will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, June 1, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. At other times, they will be at the home of his daughter, Pat Thomas, 4592 Westover Drive, Danville.8 He was born on September 2, 1923 at Franklin Co., Virginia.3,4,6,8 He married Theo Evelyn Wells on September 2, 1946 at Danville, Virginia.5 Herman Lee Vaden and Theo Evelyn Wells were divorced on March 25, 1969 at Danville, Virginia.6 Herman Lee Vaden died on May 30, 2012 at Danville, Virginia, at age 88.3,7,8

Mr. Vaden, aged 65 years, was born in Halifax County near South Boston, July 13, 1896, a son of the late Henry Vaden and Mrs. Mary Bett Newby Vaden. Most of his life had been spent in and around Danville, and he was a member of the State Line Baptist Church. He was employed with Crowell-Long about 20 years, however, prior to his retirement he was associated with the Harville Motor Company. On July 4, 1920, he was married to Miss Nettie Darnell. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Miss Lovenia Vaden and Mrs. Sam Hamlett, both of the Holland Rd., and Mrs. George Brooks, Jr., of Glenwood. He also leaves three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Kite; and one brother Hester Vaden, both of Glenwood. Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Swicegood Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock by the Rev. Lester F. Gayton and the Rev. M. T. Sorrell. Interment will followin Highland Burial Park. The body is resting at the funeral home, and the family will be at the Holland Road residence. on February 19, 1962.3

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vivian Wilborn Vaden, a daughter, Mrs. George Compton, South Boston, a son, Henry I. Vaden. Baltimore, Md., a sister, Mrs. Marion Hite, Alton, Va., three brothers, W. H. Vaden, Dorsey Vaden and Grover Vaden, all of Danville, Va., and a grandchild. on March 31, 1950.3

Born December 19, 1935, in Danville, he was the son of Grover A. Vaden and Mattie Ingram Vaden, both deceased. Eddie graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, and attended the University of Virginia. He served in the United States Air Force four years as math and surveying instructor at ERDL, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Eddie retired in 1992 after thirty years of employment with the Prudential Insurance Company of America. He was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church in Nashville, where he has served as Membership Secretary for a number of years, and was a member of the History and Archives Committee. Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Sylvia Dameron Vaden; daughter, Melinda V. Tate and husband, Miles of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter, Dr. Laurel V. Alsentzer and husband, John of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Amy V. Biagini of Franklin, Tennessee; three sisters, Lillian Vaden, Mary V. Goodman and her husband, Otha, and Nan Vaden Cahill Davidson; brother-in-law Vincent Oglesby, all of Danville; and six grandchildren, Nick Tate and wife, Lindsay, Natalie T. Gay and husband, Kearney, Dr. Andy Alsentzer, Robbie Alsentzer, Emily Alsentzer, and Joey Biagini. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Oglesby; and a brother, Herman Vaden. A Memorial Service will be held at Bellevue United Methodist Church in Nashville on Sunday, September 13, 2105, at 2 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. on September 12, 2015.3
