Sessler, 52, automotive pioneer of Fayette and Raleigh Counties, died at 3 a.m. yesterday at Brevard hospital in Melbourne, Fla. He had been hospitalized for two weeks with a heart ailment. Funeral services will be held from Brownlee Funeral Home, Melbourne, at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Emmett W. Brasselton in charge. Sessler was a native of Virginia. He was born March 3, 1896 at Indian Creek. He lived for many years in Mount Hope and was engaged in the automobile business. He was one of the firstt flight pioneers of the Beckley area, flying light planes from open fields both in Fayette and Raleigh Counties and teaching others to fly during the 20's. Finally locating in Beckley in 1932, he operated planes for five years from what was formerly known as Tolley field (now Bowling addition) and then took over the WPA-graded Beckley Mount Hope Airport under a lease which is still in his name. In the latter years of his operation of the field he was joined by his brother Robert. They made a considerate success of it, after many hardships and disappointments. They then turned to the more favorable aviation conditions of Florida, at one time operating two airports and a factory making monocoupe planes. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Sessler; his widow Mrs. Neddie Sessler; one brother, Robert, and children Danny, Patra, Mary Lucinda, all of Melbourne, Fla; Mrs. Jean Diggs and Mrs. Margaret Ann Hughes of Beckley, Mrs. Gloria Jane Rizzo, Omaha, Neb; Mrs. Mary Sue Hughes, Pearisburg, Va., and Herbert A. Sessler, of Melbourne. on March 1, 1949.9
