King, USMC, of Lawton, Okla; two daughters, Stephanie Lee Quinn, Germantown and Cheryl Lynn Blythe of Springfield, Va., seven grandchildren and a brother, John P. King of Alexandria. on July 3, 1988.8

Howell died on Monday, January 14, following a long illness. He was 78. Mr. Howell served for almost 38 years as a member of the White House staff. From 1961 until his retirement in 1971. He was the Chief Administrative Officer, the fourth person to serve in that capacity since the Lincoln administration. Mr. Hall's first White House assignment was as mail clerk for Eleanor Roosevelt. From this post he moved to the Administrative Office of Accounts, Purchasing and Personnel. Serving under 6 different presidents, Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, he was responsible for all purchases made for the White House as well as for the payroll for a staff of 350. He also handled arrangements for the swearing in of cabinet officials and he frequently conducted the swearing in ceremonies for commissioners and other officers. At his retirement he was a topic of White House press conference conducted by Ronald Zigler, press secretary for President Nixon. Mr. Howell met with the President later that morning, who presented him with a commemorative ash tray. "It's a poor gift for 37 1/2 years of service," the President said. "If you don't smoke, maybe someone else will use it. You can always throw it at someone if you wish," Nixon joked. Later in the week a reception was held in the theater of the White House in honor of Mr. Howell, at which time he was presented with an album containing signed letters of appreciation from Presidents Truman, Johnson, and Nixon, as well as Vice President Spiro Agnew, and Nixon's secretary, Rose Mary Woods. Like other high-ranking government officials, he was also presented with the office chair he had used, to which a commemorative brass plaque was affixed giving his title and the dates of his service. Howell was born in Shirley, Indiana. His mother died when he was seven and he was brought up by his father. He married Lucille Taylor in 1935. Their daughter, Shirleyann Howell Fuston died of a heart attack in 1964, leaving 3 daughters, Debra, Donna and Shirleyann. The Howell's first move to Greenbelt in August 1938, living at 1-K Gardenway until 1948. In 1965, they moved back to the city to their present home on Lakeview Circle. Besides Mrs. Howell, and the three granddaughters, Mr. Howell is survived by 3 great-grandchildren. on January 24, 1991.6

Ellis was born in Crumpler and was a son of the late Myrtle Ellen and Ellis Bailey Sizemore Sr. He was raised in Coopers and came to Charleston in 1954. He was a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran and finished his service as a pilot. Ellis was one of the first men to ever fly into the eye of a hurricane. After the war, he attended the teachers college at Arizona State University and later graduated from Morris Harvey College, now the University of Charleston, where he received a business degree in accounting. Ellis started his career working for the state of West Virginia as the director of the Statistical Division of Workers Compensation, where he met his future wife. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Don, Jack and Bill; and sisters, Elizabeth Jewell, Louise Barnes and Claire Semonco. He is survived by his wife, Etta Mae Singleton Shai Sizemore; children, Linda (David) Edwards of Charleston, John (Vicky) Sizemore of Charleston, Robert (Susie) Sizemore of Fraziers Bottom and Deborah Sizemore of Charleston; sisters, Mary Jane Jones of Richmond, Va., Dorothy Booth of Richmond, Va., and Evelyn Thompson of Norfolk, Va; brothers, Charles (Juanita) Sizemore of Bluefield and Clarence and Roy Sizemore, both of Richmond, Va; sister-in-law, Betty Sizemore of Bluefield; and six grandchildren, Jonathan, Jennifer and Jaclyn Edwards and Chelsey, Dominic and Dakota Sizemore. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Charleston. on February 25, 2011.6
