She loved animals and traveling, especially to Arizona, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Doris was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Lonnie Palmer; her former husband, Gregory Y. Musselman; and a niece, Sandy Palmer. She leaves behind a daughter, Tammy (Avery) Blankenship of Bluffton, S.C; son, Michael (Debra) Sweeney of New Castle, VA; granddaughters, Sara Sell (Brad Cason) of Redmond, Ore., Tiffany Sweeney of Salem, Va., and Melissa (Skyler) Minnick of Radford, Va; great-granddaughter, June Cason of Redmond, Ore; brother, Edward R. (Margaret) Palmer of Chandler, Ariz; niece and nephew, Cindy Herst and Ron Palmer of Arizona; good friends, Linda Heninger and Sara Moran of Salem, Va; and former husband and friend, Ed Sweeney of Salem, Va. She is also survived by one brother, Roy Lee Martin; and one sister, Ruth Lois Arey; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was born June 19, 1909, in Warner, Alberta, Canada, a daughter August and Caroline Erickson. She moved with her parents to numerous railraod locations as she grew up and attended schools, before settling in the Billings area. Lillian married Luther Chatham on June 21, 1927, in Billings and the couple made their home on Rotten Grass Creek near Lodge Grass. They farmed and ranched on the creek until Mr. Chatham's death in 1970. She remained on the home place until moving to Heritage Acres in 2002. She was very proud of her yard and her beautiful flower garden. She often fed birds, squirrels and the occasional bear and deer which wandered through her yard. She was a member of the Baptist church, was a charter member of the Lodge Grass Grandmother's Club and the Big Horn County Cowbells. Her parents; daughter, Barbara Grossman; son, Richard (Dick) Chatham; granddaughter, Joanne Forney; sisters, Alice Erickson and Edith Chatham; brothers, Roy, Clarence and Lawrence Erickson; and sons-in-law, Mick Stevens and George Grossman, preceded Lillian in death. Survivors include her daughter, Janet Stevens of Lodge Grass; her grandchildren, Debra Schaak, Carolyn McCleary, Susan Stevens and Michael (Lisa) Stevens, Terry (Peter) Kund, Brenda (Dwayne) Newfeld, Brian (Leslie) Grossman, Connie (Bruce) Lowe, Sheri, Rachel and Richard (Renee) Chatham; 26 greatgrandchildren; seven great-greatgrandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Chatham; several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Jean (Dick) Gregory. He enjoyed working with youths, hunting and fishing. Mr. Chatham, 49, died of cancer Wednesday in the VA Hospital in Miles City after a long illness. Born in Hardin, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther H. Chatham, he married Mary Lou George in 1952 at Casper, Wyo. A veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife and a son, Richard, of Lodge Grass; four daughters, Rachel and Joanne, both of Hardin, Connie of Gallatin Gateway, and Sherri of Bozeman; his mother, Mrs. Lillian Chatham of Lodge Grass; and two sisters, Mrs. Mick Stevens of Lodge Grass, and Mrs. Barbara Grossman of Burbank, Calif. Mr. Chatham's adopted family, by Crow custom, included Larry and Barbara Whiteman and Martin and Phyllis Spotted Horse, all of Lodge Grass, and Carl and Vera Pease of Pryor Star Route, Billings. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lodge Grass Baptist Mission Church. Cremation is planned with Bullis Mortuary of Hardin in charge. on June 16, 1978.⁴

The Rev. Ralph W. Glenn, pastor of the American Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mountview cemetery. Mrs. Chatham was undergoing an operation for a brain tumor in Rochester hospital when death occurred. She was the wife of John Chatham, who resides 23 miles south east of Lodge Grass. Before her marriage to Mr. Chatham in September 1926 she had lived in Billings for seven years, coming here from South Dakota in 1919. She was born in North Dakota, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Enckson. Mrs. Chatham is survived by the widower, four daughters, Mrs. Dick Gregory of Rotten Grass creek, and Carol, Karen and Patsy at home, and a son, Jack, also at home. Other survivors are her mother, Mrs. Lena Spencer, 711 South Twenty-sixth street; two brothers Lawrence J. Erickson, 2709 1/2 Montana avenue, and Clarence L. Erickson, veterans housing project, and a sister, Mrs. Luther Chatham of Lodge Grass. on November 5, 1947.⁵
