He lived in El Toro, Calif., before moving to Portland in 1974 and was a locksmith for American Property Management for 29 years. He married Jackie Connor in the 1950s; she died in 1985. He later married Dorothy, who died in about 1998. Survivors include his companion, Nina Stinnett. His daughter, Ginger L., died about 1999. Arrangements by Lincoln Memorial. on January 30, 2004.2

He attended grade school at Austin, and then continued his education at Prairie City, where he graduated from high school in 1952. After graduation, Ray went to work for a short time with the U.S. Forest Service. He then worked for six months at the Kinzua mill. In 1954, he married his childhood sweetheart, Janis. They made their first home at Bates where Ray worked for Edward Hines Lumber Co. When the mill closed its Bates site and moved to John Day, Ray made the move as well. He retired as a millwright from Edward Hines Lumber Co. after 40 years of service. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed being out in the hills. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janis of John Day; a daughter, Cheryl, and her husband, Terry Sherman, of John Day; a son, Roger Clark of Pilot Rock; three grandchildren, Megan Sherman, Colton Clark and Kaylie Clark, all of John Day; and three sisters, Lois Jean King of Payette, Idaho, Betty Lou White of Portland, and Stella McCauley of Mount Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel; and two brothers, Charles "Earl" and David. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice through Tami's Pine Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834. on April 29, 2005.1
