James Boyd Hamilton was buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 62nd and Kingsessing Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.1 He married Bessie Virginia Baldwin, daughter of Wilson Baldwin and Abbie Lula Deweese.4 James Boyd Hamilton was born on December 29, 1898 at Bridgeton, Cumberland Co., New Jersey; His WWII Draft Registration card and death certificate have a birth year of 1899.1,2,3,5 He died on June 29, 1954 at Altoona, Blair Co., Pennsylvania, at age 55.1,6 He Suffering a heart attack or fainting spell when the superstructure of the PRR's Samuel Rea shops under construction at Hollidaysburg, Foreman of Painters James B. Hamilton, 54, of Philadelphia, toppled 58 feet to his death Tuesday morning, Coroner D. Harold Troxell said. The victim had been giving instructions fellow-workers when the accident occurred 11:08 A.M. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mercy hospital at 11:25 A. M. Coroner Troxell said an autopsy showed that Mr. Hamilton died from traumatic shock as a result of a ruptured heart, ruptured liver, fractures of ribs on both sides and a fracture of the right upper arm. There were few bruises on his body, the coroner said. The autopsy also showed that he had localized myocardial degeneration incident to coronary occlusion. A co-painter foreman, John Jansen, told Coroner Troxell that he was standing on the ground when Hamilton called to him to send up some rope. Jansen said Mr. Hamilton was standing on the frame of the building with his hands on his hips when he turned around to carry out his request. The native Philadelphia lived at painter a 23 N. Martin Lane, Norwood, and was an employe of the Pruss-Bradley Co. of Philadelphia which holds the sub-contract to paint the steel superstructure of the $12,000,000 building. The Hughes-Foulkrod Construction company, also of Philadelphia, holds the general contract. As Mr. Hamilton fell, his feet struck the whistle of an air compressor and tore it from the machine as he fell. The 150 men employed on the project were sent home immediately after the fatality occurred and not return to the job until Wednesday. The fatality is the first recorded at the project. Mr. Hamilton leaves his wife and two daughters. He was born Dec. 29, 1899, at Bridgeton, N. J., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli H. He was a veteran of World war I. on June 30, 1954.6
