     Frank Benjamin Shorter Jr. Frank Benjamin Shorter, Jr., age 81, of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015 in North Carolina. He was born March 7, 1934 in Lynchburg, Virginia, son of Frank B. & Virginia Ethel (Kirby) Shorter. After Frank graduated high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1958. He was a hard worker and was a Union Representative. He retired from Kroger as the head meat cutter after 40 years of loyal service. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Belleville, where he was active in the Men's Club during his younger years. Frank was a social butterfly who loved to tell stories, and a former member of the Moose. He was an avid reader who enjoyed going to the beach and loved telling a good joke. Mr. Shorter is survived by four children Dianne (Kurt) Shorter of Lansing, Denise Shorter of Ypsilanti, MI, John (Lauren) Shorter of Raleigh, North Carolina and Annemarie Shorter of Ypsilanti, two sisters Rita (Carlos) Crane of Troutville, Virginia and Katherine Hurt of Roanoke, Virginia, also several nieces and nephews and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie A. (Crickon) Shorter on October 8, 2008, son Frank B. Shorter III, two brothers Robert and Carl Shorter, also a sister Shelby Ellis. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Sunday and 12-2 PM Monday, April 6, 2015 at David C. Brown Funeral Home, 460 E. Huron River Dr., Belleville, MI 48111. Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 PM. She worked as a Nurse's Aid and later for GM at the Powertrain plant, Ypsilanti. Preceded in death by son, Frank Benjamin Shorter III, also a brother Thomas Crickon. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday at David C. Brown Funeral Home, Belleville. Interment Hillside Cemetery, Belleville. on October 11, 2008.4

Left to cherish memories of him are his wife, Judy Board Shorter, the love of his life of 30 years; his daughter, who he called "Punkin", Jessica Shorter Myers and son-in-law, Brian Myers; known as "Pop-Pop" by his two young grandsons, Austin and Grayson Myers, who were the light of his life and brought him so much joy; his nephew, who he raised and loved like a son, Mark Hurt, his wife, Tiffany Hurt, and known as "Grandpa" by their six children, Shane, Kenneth, Hailey, Caleb, Luke and Logan. In addition, surviving, are his loving mother-in-law, Uldine Orange Board; three sistersin-law, who he loved like sisters, Pat Underwood, Linda Moses and Doris Shorter ; special nieces and nephews, Shannon, Summer, Brayden and Addalyn Underwood, Amy and Brandon Croy, Cory Moses, Josh, Eddie, Allyssa, Makenzie and Aubrey Board; and many special friends at VFW Post 1264. The family would like to thank his cardiologist, Dr. Eric Williams, for all of his devoted efforts. Rest in peace now, the battle is over, you will be forever in our hearts. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Eugene Mills officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, with Military Honors by the United States Air Force. The family would like to invite everyone who loved Karl to come to the VFW Post 1264 banquet hall following the graveside service for a celebration luncheon honoring his life.
