Anthony Par Lipford Anthony P. Lipford served as a Private in the Virginia Militia and in the Revolutionary War. He substituted in 1780 for George Wright at Cumberland Court House. In the 4th Regiment he serving under Colonel Stubblefied at Hillsborough, North Carolina, and was in the battle of Rougeley's Mills where the American Army was defeated. His second tour was served in the 3rd Virginia Regiment under Colonel Wilson, which marched with the famous French General Lafayette to meet General Wayne at Raccoon Ford.
Anthony and then his widow Elizabeth received a war pension of $36.66 yearly, which was increased to $96 in 1868. Elizabeth was also granted 160 acres of bounty land located in the Kansas Territory, which she sold to Richard Disney in 1857. The family lived in Cumberland County until 1788, when they moved to Pittsylvania County, Virginia.5 He Book 14, Accounts Current, pp. 306-308, lists amounts paid, including cash to Amos Lipford $330.00, Daniel Lipford $347.75, Anthony Lipford (son of Fielding Lipford who had died) $129.09, and John Y. Yeatts (for Elizabeth Feline Lipford Yeatts, granddaughter) $155.53. at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.6 He was born in 1755 at Dinwiddie Co., Virginia.2 He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Robinson/Robertson, daughter of Field Robinson/Robertson and Obedience Bradshaw, on July 25, 1785 at Cumberland Co., Virginia.2,6 Anthony Par Lipford Anthony Par Lipford bought one hundred and twelve (112) acres of land on the north side of the Banister River in Pittsylvania County from John Chatten for one hundred pounds "current money of Virginia". The transaction was recorded in Pittsylvania County courthouse records on January 18, 1790. in 1789.2 He married Elizabeth Ferguson, daughter of William Ferguson and Besheba Newbill, on April 20, 1827 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.2,3 Anthony Par Lipford On this 21st of October in the year of one thousand eight hundred and thirty three personally appeared in open court before the County Court of Pittsylvania now sitting Anthony P. Lipford, a resident of the county of and state aforesaid aged seventy eight years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress, June 7, 1832:
that he entered the service of the United States, the day month or year he does not exactly remember, under Captain Charles Ballow; his Lieutenant was named Threadgill and his Ensign was named John Mortin.
He entered the service as a substitute for a certain George Albright at Cumberland Court House, Virginia for a Tour of Eight months.
He was marched to rendezvous at Hillsborough in North Carolina and was there attached to the Fourth Regiment of Virginia Militia commanded by Colonel Stubblefield. His Major was named Spencer.
From thence he was marched to Rougely's Mill in South Carolina under General Stephens near Camden, where General Gates was Commander in Chief.
From Rougely's Mills he was marched to meet the British Army.
The two armies met after the American Army had gone a few miles and had an engagement.
The American Army under Gates was defeated.
After that he came back to Hillsborough with four or five hundred others.
He was then moved to New Garden in North Carolina and after staying there for a while he was moved to Guilford Court House where he served out his tour. Captain Ballow was with him when he came back to Hillsborough and was at New Garden, but finally left the troops.
The number dwindled down to a Captain's command.
He does not now remember that Captain's name distinctly but is under the impression it was Daniel and he was discharged by him at Guilford Court House.
He put his discharge on his return home in the hands of his Father and he cannot now tell what has become of it.
He also states that in a short time after he came home he was drafted in the services again under Captain William Meredith at Cumberland Court House. Captain Meredith's Lieutenant was named Robert Anderson.
From Cumberland Court House he was marched to Richmond and from Richmond to Wilton.
At that time he was attached to the third Regiment of Virginia Militia commanded by Colonel Wilson. Major Machumen was his Major.
At Wilton, La Fayette was Commander.
From Wilton he was marched to Raccoon Ford on the Rappahannock.
There General Wayne met them.
He was there discharged by General Mulenburg, his Brigadier General.
This was a tour of three months and his discharge for that tour is also lost.
He has no documentary evidence to prove his service except the affidavits herewith filed.
He was born in Dinwiddie County Virginia in the year 1755 as he is informed by his parents. He has no record of his age. When he entered the service he lived in the county of Cumberland Virginia and there remained until the year 1788. He then moved to Pittsylvania County Virginia and now lives there.
The first tour of his service he was a substitute for George Wright and the second tour he was drafted. He has above stated as far as he is able the names of officers and also the names of the Regiments and circumstances of his service. For the names of persons to whom he is known in his present neighbourhood and who can testify for his character for verification and their belief of his services as a soldier of the Revolution he refers to Samuel M. Lovell, Robert Cook, Coalman D. Bennett and thousand others if needful. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of the agency of any state. Sworn to and subscribed the day and year aforesaid."

Lipford, a Revolutionary pensioner of the United States under the act of June 1832 do hereby certify that I married the a sister of Judith Robinson of the County of Halifax, widow of George Robinson in 1785 and from the length of time that George and Judith Robinson had been living together as man and wife before I was married, I feel safe in saying that they must have been married in 1778 or 9 though I was not present at the time the marriage took place but I have no doubt they were lawfully married as George Robinson was recognized as the legal husband of Judith and received a legatees part of the estate as such in the year 1786. Given under my hand this 30th day of August 1839

Lipford lived and died, after advertising the time and place for one month. He was also to divide the slaves into 3 equal parts: one third to Amos Lipford, one third to Daniel Lipford, and divide the last third equally between John Y. Yates (in right of Elizabeth Feline Lipford his wife) and Anthony Lipford (son of Fielding Lipford). on February 15, 1841.6 He Pittsylvania County Court Orders, February 18, 1841, Motion of Coalman D. Bennett with Richard Jones and Thomas L. Jones, who entered into a Bond, in penalty of $20.00, and the required certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of administration on the estate of Anthony P. Lipford deceased from Elizabeth Lipford widow. The inventory included 24 slaves and the total estate valued at $10,084.45. A graduate of Christiansburg High School, he served in the United States Army in Japan from 1952 til 1954. An employee of the United States Postal Service he worked in the Blacksburg Post Office for over thirty years. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Willard; nephew, Pfc Leon David Willard; his best friend and faithful wife Joyce Roop Williams. Surviving are his daughter, Sue W. Price and special friend, Jerry Trump, Christiansburg; grandchildren, Kirstin P. Bonney and husband, David, Frostburg, MD, Jacob Price and wife, Lori, Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Galen, Aydin, Shye and Willow Bonney, Frostburg, Md., Victoria Price, Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Dennis Brown, Mechanicsville, Va; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Williams, Pulaski; brother-in-law, John D. Weeks, Oxford, Ohio; four special daughters, Martha Spencer, Bobbie Lemley, Christiansburg, Lisa Lafoon, Rustburg, Va., Barbara Simpson, St. Jose, Michigan; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and greatnephews and many special friends. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff and friends at Country Kitchen, Dr. Scott Boerth, Dr. Don Bivins and Good Samaritan Hospice of NRV. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Wimmer and three brothers, Marvin Wimmer, Gene Wimmer and Frank Wimmer. Survivors include his loving wife, Bonnie S. Wimmer; mother, Bertha L. Wimmer, Pilot; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff Wimmer, Scott Wimmer and Lyn Radford, all of Christiansburg; stepsons and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jessica Bush, Orefield, Pa., Blaine Bush and fiance, Michelle Drury, Richmond, Va., Bryan Bush, Christiansburg, Va; grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Wimmer, Taylor Radford, Brian Wimmer and Hannah Bush; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Evelyn Stone, Bill and Connie Moore; also surviving are very special cousins, Dennis Jennings and wife Joanne, Wendell Light and wife Diane; his adopted family, Beverly Chamberlain, Ashley and Aaron Altizer and Chase Chamberlain; several nieces and many close family members and friends. Ronnie went to work during high school for a lifelong friend, Jabe Thomas, at Jabes Gulf in Christiansburg. He then went to work at Burlington Industries, now New River Industries, where he held numerous positions, retiring with twenty years of service. In 1976 he became the owner-operator of Pilot Mountain Grocery in Pilot, Va. Even though his illness forced his official retirement from the store in 2000, he continued to make the trip to the mountain and greet customers in the early morning hours until four weeks ago. Being at the "Store" was a job that he never referred to as work. It was something that he looked forward to each and every day. A special thank you goes to the staff at Pilot Mountain Grocery for all of their love and support. Ronnie was a lover of life, and the outdoors and throughout his illness he never let it get him down, always remaining positive and kept everyone uplifted that he came in contact with. He has touched so many lives and we are all comforted in his courage and spirit. Ronnie always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word to share. He was a member of Open Door Baptist Church. Interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and the hundreds of cards received over the past five years of Ronnie's illness. your kindness will never be forgotten, Also a special thank you to Dr. Harry McCoy and staff, Dr. Bruce Long and staff and Gentle Shepherd Hospice. on November 7, 2004.1
