She died on October 23, 2014 at Virginia at age 39.2 She Amanda Gayle Light Haynes, 39, of Pilot, Va., passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014, after a two year battle with triple negative breast cancer. She was a 1993 graduate of Floyd County High School, and was employed at BB&T Bank in Christiansburg. She was known for her beautiful smile and her concern for others. She is survived by her son, Zachary Noah Light; her daughters, Kendall Shay Haynes and Keaton Mae Haynes; and their father, Stephen Haynes. She is also survived by her parents, Wendell and Dianne Light; her brother and his wife, Brian and Teresa Light; and a special niece, Brittany Light. Also surviving are her in-laws, Richard and Jackie Haynes, Scott and Maeve Haynes, Stacy and Drew Viers; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m.on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 3795 Surface Road, Riner, Va., with Pastor James Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at the Iddings Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 25, 2014,from 4until 7 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. The family expresses their thanks to Duke Cancer Center and Dr. Robert Rotche and staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center for their care and concern these past two years. on October 25, 2014.2

She formerly lived in the Terry's Fork Community of Floyd County. Mrs. Poage was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Clinton L. Poage, her brother, Vernon G. Wood, and her grandson, Matt Hancock. She is survived by her sister, Lois Wood DeVilbiss (Dan) of Radford; daughters, Bunny Hancock of Roanoke and Vandy Kemp (David) of Alcoa, Tenn; granddaughter, Janet Beard of Brookly, N.Y; grandson, Will Hancock (Angela) of Louisville, Ky; and great-granddaughter, Sierra Hancock, also of Louisville. Mrs. Poage was a graduate of Radford College and her career as a classroom teacher touched hundreds of lives and spanned five decades during which she taught at Rifton, Floyd, Terry's Fork, Check High and Check Elementary Schools. in Floyd County. She loved music, theater, gardening and traveling, but her greatest love was for the written word. She was an avid reader and she herself wrote poems, stories, plays, essays and countless journals of her experiences. She and her husband were lifelong members of Havens Chapel United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Her faithful life was an inspiration to her loved ones. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Havens Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home. Matt was Vice President of the Tech Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalist. Matt was a poet, a writer and dreamed of graduation and a job with a news paper and the Pulitzer. He is survived by his older brother, Will Hancock, Roanoke and his stepbrothers, Luke and Bubba Hancock, Roanoke; his grandparents, Clinton and Vera Alta Poage, Check, Va., Doris Grimes, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Bill Hancock, Sr., Glassboro, N.J. Matt's other survivors are his cousins, Sam and Mike Hancock, Marty Dee and Stacey Kirsch, Bo and Mark Rains and Jenny Beard; his aunts and uncles, Vandy Beard, Frank Hancock, Media Rains, Jim Hancock and Sharon Kirsch. A scholarship fund has been established to honor Matt's memory at Virginia Tech in the School of Communications for 5th year seniors who are writers and journalist.
