Dick returned to San Diego in 1966 where he was an Air Force recruiter until he retired as a Master Sergeant. On May 1, 1998, he celebrated his birthday and on May 2, 1998, he was reborn into the kingdom of God and on May 3, 1998, his wife was reborn into the kingdom of God. He is survived by siblings, Bobbi, Rusty, Janice, Jerry and Diane, multiple nieces and nephews as well as his daughter, Deborah Holland, M.D., and his beloved granddaughter, Ellen Claire Holland. Bill joined the Navy after Pearl Harbor and served as boatswain's mate second class from 1942 to 1945 operating landing craft in the Pacific Theater of the war. He met and married Janie after the war, and after training in electronics, moved to Portsmouth where they opened Airline TV. They co-operated the business for 40 years until their retirement. He was a founding member and deacon of United Congregational Christian Church as well as founding member and past president of Hampton Roads Beagle Club. After retirement, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, golf, woodworking and vegetable gardening. The enormous void in our hearts will be filled with memories of his kind and gentle nature.
