Born October 3, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Zachariah and Maggie Vest DeWitt. She retired from the public school systems with almost 40 years of service having taught in Floyd and Tazwell counties and the state of Maryland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one sister, Daisy D. Thomas of Floyd; nieces and nephews, Ralph DeWitt, Staunton, Glen DeWitt, Hermitage, Tenn., Shelby Cheek, Rancho Mirage, Calif., Diane Thompson, Rancho Mirage, Calif., Jane Baylor, Mt. Solon, Phillip DeWitt, Charlotte, N.C., Rodney DeWitt, Bent Mountain, DeWitt Thomas, Check, Judy Hubbard, Radford, and a very special family friend Janice Conner of Check. Burial will follow in the Stonewall Cemetery. on July 26, 1999.⁴
